Nganjuk native Hestyriani Anisa Widyaningsih (known as Nisa) was one of the few students from the rural regency to pursue tertiary education at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, where she majored in Japanese Literature. After graduation, Nisa and a UGM friend Rushan, decided to set up IWAK; a crowdfunding platform to kickstart commercial fish farming businesses to help poor families to improve their livelihoods in Rushan’s home village of Kebon Agung in Nganjuk. Nisa also works in public relations for another company, Otoman.

The economic disparity between urban Yogyakarta and his village inspired him and Nisa to set up IWAK, a crowdfunding platform for fish farms operated by the low income villagers in Kebon Agung. Prior to that, Rushan had also co-founded Meseji, a Web-based app to help SMEs automate their text message (SMS) marketing campaigns.

Central Java’s highest national exam scorer, Anggita Arum Pertiwi (known as Gita), is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies in Accounting at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta. Originally from Temanggung regency in Central Java, Gita won third place in the National Accounting Challenge 2015. She is IWAK’s financial controller and also works as a teaching assistant at UGM. Chrisna Aditya graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree in 2011 at Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. He founded a mobile app development business and ran it for one year. In 2012, he joined fellow ITB alumnus Gibran Huzaifah to set up aquaculture startup PT Multidaya Teknologi Nusantara. The company later launched the eFishery automatic fish feeder system.

Although Depi Rusnandar holds a bachelor’s in Geophysics and Seismology from Indonesia’s Institut Teknologi Bandung, he spent most of his career at Bank Syariah Mandiri (the sharia arm of Bank Mandiri). He joined the bank as an Account Officer in 2002 and became a data analyst for its commercial banking vertical in 2015. Depi obtained a master’s in Syariah banking at Indonesia Banking School in 2015 and eventually left the bank to establish IDCloudHost as a co-founder and commissioner. He also joined PT BPRS Artha Fisabilillah as a director in 2017.

Paundra Noorbaskoro established Growpal, an investment crowdfunding startup for the aquaculture and fishery industry, after being inspired by his experiences as a student in Indonesia and Hawaii. Equipped with a degree in Aquaculture from Indonesia’s Universitas Brawijaya, Paundra serves as the company’s Chief Product Officer.

A graduate of Aquaculture studies from Indonesia’s Universitas Brawijaya, he has run his own fish and shrimp farm and had worked at Pertamina Dana Ventura, a venture capital fund owned by national oil and gas firm Pertamina. In 2017, he joined fellow Brawijaya graduate Paundra Noorbaskoro to establish Growpal.

Pedro Araújo Manuel is the Portuguese founder and CEO of software development company Bitcliq, where he has worked since 2013. He also holds the same positions within its two brands launched to date: Lota Digital, an e-marketplace for small-scale fisherman and sustainable fish retailers with blockchain-enabled traceability, and BIG EYE Smart Fishing, a platform for managing fishing fleets and fish traceability. Previously, Manuel was owner, co-founder and managing partner at tech agency MakeWise for nine years. Before 2013, he spent seven years in software and web development and systems administration at three different companies, including Portugal’s national post office. Manuel holds a master’s degree in Information Technology and Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon.

Indraka Fadhlillah became an entrepreneur after graduating from university. Between 2011 and 2015, he was the co-founder and CEO of a T-shirt production startup “Give Production”. In 2015, he joined two former Telkom University students to establish PasarLaut.com that was later re-branded as Aruna. Hailing from the coastal region, Indraka is building up connections in the fishery business as the COO of Aruna.
