Founded in 2004 by Liu Qiangdong (Richard Liu) with about 30 staff, JD.com (JD stands for Jingdong) has grown to become Alibaba's biggest rival and is backed by Tencent. Similar to Amazon, the NASDAQ-listed JD.com builds and controls its own distribution/logistics network, giving it an advantage in a country used to poor package delivery services. It is an investor in Indonesian ride-hailing company Gojek, and also operates an Indonesian version of its e-commerce platform, JD.id.

Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund was launched at the closing ceremony of the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence conference. It was co-led by state-owned enterprises such as Guosheng Group and Lingang Group, and backed by local governments, state-owned industrial groups, and financing firms. The fund was initially be valued at RMB 10bn, with plans to increase this figure to RMB 100bn. It operates through direct investment and sub-funds.It mainly invests in early-stage tech companies as well as leading players that apply AI technologies in various verticals. 

New Energy Nexus is a US-based investor and startup support organization that focuses on the clean energy sector. The company was originally known as the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF) and has invested in SolarCentury and Tesla Motors. Since 2015, New Energy Nexus has been working with international partners like GIZ (the German agency for international development) and IKEA Foundation to promote renewables and smart energy worldwide. In 2018, New Energy Nexus launched its Southeast Asian operations by establishing offices in Indonesia and Thailand.New Energy Nexus supports startups through incubator and accelerator programs, hackathons, public talks, grants and equity investments. So far, it has invested in four Indonesian startups, including B2B rooftop solar service provider Xurya and solar equipment marketplace BLUE, and distributed nearly $50,000 in grants.

Startmate is an accelerator program for tech-enabled Australian and New Zealand start-ups. It also operates a seed fund backed by venture capitalists and established entrepreneurs. The organisation was established in 2011 by Niki Scevak, founder of Blackbird Ventures, and a team that included the founders of Australian enterprise software company Atlassian.  Since its inception in 2011, Startmate has invested in more than 150 startups with a combined valuation of more than A$1 billion. Startmate runs two accelerator cohorts a year, usually from January–April and July–October. This accelerator program is open to a wide range of entrepreneurs, from idea-stage groups and pre-Series A startups, to solo founders and complete teams. Companies participating in Startmate’s accelerator program each receive A$75,000 from Startmate’s community of mentors, in exchange for 7.5% equity. In 2019 Startmate launched a dedicated Climate Cohort, which runs parallel with the standard program and focuses on startups in cleantech and climate-tech. Startmate also runs a First Believers program twice a year, which trains future or aspiring angel investors from Australia and New Zealand by building their confidence and networks and refining their investment strategies. In addition, the organization runs a coaching and mentorship program and holds other networking programs, like a Founders’ Fellowship, Women Fellowship, and Student Fellowship, at various dates throughout the year.  

Torch Capital is a venture capital firm based in New York, primarily investing in seed and Series A rounds with check sizes ranging from $500,000 to $3m. Founded in 2018, the firm raised its first fund of $60m in June 2019, making 15 investments within its first year of operations. Torch Capital has made a total of 46 investments and 10 exits to date. Two investees, Compass and Digital Ocean, are now public-listed companies.Founder and managing partner Jonathan Keidan previously worked for McKinsey and Company and for General Electric CEO Jack Welsh. Keidan is also the co-founder of digital media publication InsideHook.

US-French private equity company L Catterton is based in Greenwich, USA, with 17 offices around the world and over $28bn of equity capital. It mostly invests in the consumer industry as well as real estate and technology startups.Founded in 1989 and currently led by co-CEOs Michael Chu and Scott Dahnke, in 2016, L Catterton partnered with the LVMH Group and Groupe Arnault combining Catterton's operations with LVMH and Groupe Arnault's real estate and private equity operations across Europe Asia, and North America. The partnership formed the largest global consumer-focused private equity firm yet the 31st largest private equity firm in the world. L Catterton holds majority stakes in companies like Birkenstock, Crystal Jade, Bliss, John Hardy amongst others; it also invests in technology startups in their growth and hyper-growth phases. Most notable investments include Aleph Farms, ClassPass, and more recently the plant-based products manufacturer NotCo. Its latest growth fund, L Catterton Growth IV, targets an investment range of $10m–$75m in North America and Europe.

Enlightened Hospitality Investments (EHI) is a New York-based growth fund launched by Danny Meyer and his Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG). The fund leverages USHG's network of chefs, IT, marketers, and industry experts.Active since the early ’90s, it currently has $220m under management. To date, EHI has made eight investments bringing technology into the hospitality sector through companies operating in the food and beverage space.

Founded in Hong Kong in 2018, Lake Bleu Capital currently operates in both Hong Kong and Shanghai. With assets worth billions of US dollars under management, it mainly invests in pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices and healthcare services companies in Asia, especially Greater China. Its limited partners include sovereign wealth funds, university endowments, foundations, pension funds, and family offices across the world.With a long-term investment strategy, Lake Bleu Capital invests through both public and private equity with a focus on mid- to late-stage companies.

With New Hope Group, one of China’s biggest agriculture and food businesses, as its cornerstone investor, HosenCare Brothers had operated as a PE arm within the group for nearly a decade. In 2017, it began to operate under its current name. It currently manages assets worth more than RMB 3bn, and mainly invests in sectors of medtech, healthcare, biotechnology and smart manufacturing. 

One Store is a Korean Android app store launched in 2016 as a collaboration between Korea’s three mobile carriers, namely SK Telecom, KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp., and portal operator Naver, aiming to break into the local applications market, dominated by Google and Apple. It has beaten Apple Store to become the second-biggest app store in South Korea. One Store has also joined hands with Microsoft to expand into overseas markets by 2022.

Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) is an industrial group owned by Indonesian tycoon Sukanto Tanoto. It employs 60,000 people worldwide with assets worth over $20bn. Tanoto started his business empire in 1967 as a supplier of spare parts to oil and construction companies in Indonesia. He went on to invest in oil palm plantations in 1979. Since 1985, his group companies have been managing 30,000 acres of oil palm trees each year across a total land area of 160,000 hectares.Headquartered in Singapore, RGE has interests in diverse sectors like paper palm oil, viscose, asset management, real estate, construction and energy. RGE owns the world’s largest viscose producer Sateri, Asia Pacific Rayon and energy firm Pacific Oil & Gas. It is also the owner of the Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Limited (APRIL), one of the world’s largest pulp and paper mills. The Rainforest Action Network and other NGOs like Greenpeace and the WWF have put considerable pressure on the RGE group’s unsustainable operations such as the destruction of rainforests by APRIL. In 2019, RGE announced plans to invest $200m in cellulosic textile fiber research and development over a period of 10 years. Projects will include the scaling up of proven clean technology in fiber manufacturing, bringing pilot-scale production to commercial scale and R&D in emerging frontier solutions.

Fortum Oyj is a Finnish state-owned energy company operating power plants and co-generation plants across the nation. Listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki stock exchange, Fortum is reputed to be Finland’s biggest company in terms of revenue generated in 2020.It is also Europe's third-largest producer of carbon-free electricity and the second-largest producer of nuclear power. Ranked as the fifth largest heat producer globally, Fortum supplies electricity and heating directly to consumers in Finland, Germany, Central Europe, the UK and the Nordic countries.Fortum invested in Finnish cleantech Infinited Fiber, taking up a 4% stake in 2019, to complement the energy company’s biorefining value chain and to improve resource efficiency. The cleantech investee aims to license its biodegradable fiber technology to help industry partners to manufacture innovative materials from textile and industrial waste.
