Bpifrance Large Venture is the growth equity arm of French state investor Bpifrance. It is a €1bn VC fund focused on high-growth, capital-intensive, innovative tech and life sciences companies that have already raised capital. It invests minority stakes of at least €10m as well as co-invests alongside current or new investors in rounds of at least about €20m. It has invested €600m to date and currently has 34 portfolio companies, including 18 listed ones.

Founded in 1982, Ade Gestión Sodical is an investment firm that specializes in the direct funding of startups at seed, early and growth stages. It also provides finance for VC and management buy-out /buy-in ventures.Sodical mainly focuses on enterprises connected to the Spanish region of Castilla y León to promote economic development in local areas. It normally invests between €180,000 and €2 million, taking minority stakes in small and medium-sized companies.

Mehak Mumtaz grew up in Pakistan and decided to study biochemistry when she saw her brother suffering from an unknown learning disability. Her parents, both medical doctors, could not get an accurate diagnosis for their son.  In her search to understand the molecular mechanisms behind diseases, she applied to study at the University of Oxford. In 2008, she was granted the Reach Oxford Scholarship and graduated with a master’s in biochemistry in 2012. In 2015, the St Hilda’s alumna worked as an undergraduate tutor at Oxford while completing a PhD in pathology, specializing in oncology and cancer biology.In 2018, she worked on a rare cancer project as EIT Health Business Innovation fellow for a year. She left academia and joined a three-month bioentrepreneur bootcamp in Munich and a one-month Lev8 Woman Program at her alma mater’s Oxford Foundry. She joined EY-Parthenon in London as a strategy consultant in April 2019.In 2019, Mumtaz also met the iLoF co-founding team at the EIT Health Wild Card venture-building program. iLoF is a medtech startup that focuses on personalized medicine through the use of AI and photonics to create optical fingerprints in a cloud-based library to gather and manages disease biomarkers and biological profiles.She joined iLoF as COO and co-founder in December 2019 and left her full-time consultancy role at EY in March 2020.

With about US$20 billion under management worldwide, New York-headquartered Tiger Global Management was founded in 2000 with US$25 million by billionaire Charles "Chase“ Coleman. Part private equity manager, part hedge fund manager, Tiger Global is known for its big bets on tech startups, including some of today's leading names Facebook, LinkedIn, Zynga and Uber.

Jose Maria Tarragó was the VP of Ficosa International, a global provider in research, development and manufacturing of advanced technology for the motor and mobility sectors. He was also VP of Carbures Europe that specialized in the design and manufacture of engineering systems for automotive, aerospace and security industries. In 2015, Tarragó and his four brothers founded the Lacus Group that invests and mentors new tech companies and industrial manufacturers. He is also an adviser to the Eurofred Group.

Established in 1994 by Wang Zhongjun and Wang Zhonglei, Huayi Brothers Media Corporation (H. Brothers) is a large media and entertainment group in mainland China. It focuses on three major areas: film, TV and celebrity management; commercial properties that promote entertainment companies’ IP such as theme parks and film-themed tourist destinations; and new media projects such as social media, online gaming and internet fan community management. Alibaba, Tencent Holdings and PingAn have all been shareholders in H. Brothers since 2014.

Bojiang Capital was founded in Shanghai in September 2005. The investment management group has branches in Hong Kong, Beijing, Zhejiang and Shenzhen. It also has offices in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles in the US.Bojiang mainly invests in the primary equity market and focuses on high-tech young companies in the technology, media and telecoms (TMT) industry, big data, artificial intelligence, corporate services, fintech, new materials and culture. 

New York-based Humboldt Fund invests in startups with the potential to solve critical issues of our time across the areas of food production, healthcare, energy, and construction and manufacturing materials. It currently has 14 companies in its portfolio.  Its most recent investments include in the March 2021 $48m Series A round of Dutch cell-based meat startup Meatable which leverages pluripotent stem cells for the first time in foodtech, and in the February 2021 $16m seed round of US biotech Cellino Biotech. 

HATCH is an aquaculture-tech-focused accelerator program initiated by the aquaculture-focused seed VC investor Alimentos Ventures to help related startups reach commercialization and access further funding. Its inaugural program was held in Bergen, Norway, followed by a second batch in Cork, Ireland. Successful applicants get €50,000 cash and possible subsequent funding, plus free office space for up to 12 months in either of HATCH's offices in Bergen and Singapore. Its international partners include food corporates, state entities and aquaculture groups.

Based in New York City, Lerer Hippeau mainly invests in seed and early-stage startups based in the US. Founded in 2010 by managing partners Kenneth Lerer, Ben Lerer and Eric Hippeau, the VC operates several funds offering initial investments of $1m per startup. Kenneth Lerer is the co-founder of Huffington Post and longtime chairman of BuzzFeed. Hippeau was the CEO of Huffington Post and ex-managing partner of Softbank Capital that invested in Huffington Post.Its 400+ startups also get support for business growth by tapping into tech ecosystems like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Its 80+ exits include Giphy (GIF) that was acquired by Facebook and home-fitness studio Mirror acquired by Lululemon. However, the IPO by portfolio company Bed-in-a-box online retailer Casper was below market expectations. The loss-making e-commerce unicorn went public at $12 a share in February 2020, closing at $13.50 on its first day out, for a market capitalization of less than half the $1.1 billion Casper was valued at in a private funding round in 2019.

The Ford Foundation is an international philanthropy established in 1936 by Edsel Ford, son of the founder of the Ford Motor Company Henry Ford. The foundation funds initiatives in various fields with the goal of advancing human welfare. Headquartered in New York, it has offices outside the US, including an Indonesian branch that was opened in 1953. In 2014, it awarded a total of US$750,000 to 12 projects through Cipta Media Seluler (CMS), an open grant that supports social change initiatives powered by mobile phone-related technologies in Indonesia.

Founded in 2004, Polaris Capital Group is a Japanese private equity fund management firm. Since its inception, Polaris has invested in about 30 Japanese companies. It completed the fourth round of fundraising for its Polaris Private Equity Fund IV in April 2017, during which it raised JPY 75 billion. The new fund will invest in Japanese companies in the manufacturing sector with globally competitive technologies/patents as well as companies with strong brands or unique business models in the consumer goods, retail and logistics sectors.

The Oslo-born venture capital company, Northzone VC, has offices in Norway, Sweden, London and New York, and was founded in 1996. It has invested in more than 130 companies globally, across a spectrum of sectors, and at different stages, and has around €1 billion under investment currently. It has seen nine IPOs from its portfolio and manages nine funds. It has been lead investor in almost 70 rounds and has seen 30 exits to date. 

Established in 2015, Innohub Capital offers comprehensive services for early-stage startups, including incubation, entrepreneurial training, marketing, etc. It operates incubators and manages funds that focus on seed funding in China, New Zealand and Australia. Innohub Capital has created the world's first service platform for startups operating an O2O model. Founder and Chairman Xu Hongbo is an expert in mobile internet and an evangelist of blockchain in China. Innohub Capital has invested in more than 60 companies so far.

Based in Singapore, Clermont Group is a venture capital group that was founded by New Zealand-born billionaire Richard F. Chandler. The company styles itself as a "business house" with a philosophy that entrepreneurship and managing capital are noble callings. To this end, Clermont invests in businesses that are geared towards fulfilling customer needs and those that generate employment. As a group, Clermont owns shares in Vietnamese healthcare group Hoan My, Philippines based clinic network The Medical City and the Small Business FinCredit company in India.
