Felix Cheung graduated in physics from Adelaide’s Flinders University in 1999 and obtained a PhD in physics from the University of Sydney in 2005. He obtained a master’s in food analysis and food safety management from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2015. Cheung met Elton Ho during the master’s program at university and they teamed up to co-develop the advanced sous-vide aseptic packaging (ASAP) technology. In January 2017, they established IXON Food Technology to further develop and commercialize ASAP for the food industry.Cheung previously worked as a website designer and administrator at the Complex Plasma Laboratory, University of Sydney, from 2002–2006. He was also an editor at Macmillan Science Communication for one year before joining the Springer Nature publishing group to work as editor at Nature China from 2007–2014.

Picart Petcare is the family business of Albert Icart Martori, co-founder of Kibus Petcare. It has been in operation since 1953 and is based in Barcelona. Not usually an investor in tech or startups, it has invested solely in healthy pet food preparation hardware startup Kibus with a pre-seed investment of €120,000 in 1Q 2019. Picart distributes pet food and animal feed in more than 25 European and Middle Eastern markets and is set to be a key distributor of Kibus' hardware. 

Mustard Seed MAZE is a Lisbon-based VC firm that invests in early-stage startups, primarily in social impact enterprises. Endowed with €40m, the VC has invested in projects dealing with food wastage, human trafficking, postnatal depression and general healthcare.So far, it has managed one exit, with the majority of its portfolio of 20 companies based in Europe. Recent investment rounds include $3m seed funding for Portuguese mesh network tech HypeLabs, €1.15m seed round for Spanish fintech StudentFinance and $12m Series B round for UK-based food waste app Winnow.

Invest FWD A/S is an investment vehicle owned by Anders Holch Povlsen, founder of BESTSELLER and Heartland. It is also BESTSELLER’s investment arm for sustainable fashion. In June 2021, the firm made its investment by participating in a Series B round of Finnish cleantech Infinited Fiber. BESTSELLER’s sustainability innovation platform Fashion FWD Lab has been collaborating with Infinited Fiber over the past year to develop and patent Infinna™ fiber material. BESTSELLER has also signed a multi-year commercial agreement with Infinited Fiber to secure access to the startup’s regenerated fibers to be made from textile and other industrial waste.

Based in London, CPT Capital is the venture arm of private equity pioneer Jeremy Coller's private family office. Coller is the founder of Europe’s first private equity for secondaries in 1990. The British philanthropist has also established several business schools and the Jeremy Coller Foundation that aims to eliminate factory farming. In 2017, CPT Capital was founded to disrupt the food industry with investments in the alt-protein sector to create the “future of food and materials” like plant-based, recombinant and cell-cultured proteins.

Headquartered in Washington DC, IDB Lab is the innovation arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB) Group . Its investment vehicle, IDB Invest, aims to finance projects that foster innovation and inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean area. .  IDB Invest provides many types of financial support. It operates through blended finance to mobilize capital flows into emerging markets or provides loans to test new business models or injects equity into business ventures.

Lugard Road Capital is a New York-based hedge fund under the Luxor Capital Group. The fund invests across market segments and geographies, with several late-stage investments included in its current portfolio of 11 startups.In 2021, Lugard and Luxor led the €450m Series F round for Spanish on-demand delivery app Glovo and also joined the $146m Series J round of Indian foodtech Zomato in 2020. Recent investments include participation in the $43m Series B round of food-sharing app OLIO in September 2021 and the June 2021 $28.5m Series C round of Norwegian ocean and air freight benchmarking and market analytics platform Xeneta. 

Rosa López-Monis is a well-known nutrition, food safety and health specialist in southern Spain. She also holds a master's in Nutrition and Dietetics and a master's in Clinical Analysis. She has published health and nutrition books like Green Detox. Since 2007, the molecular biologist and microscopist has been running her own e-commerce site  for Health, Wellness and Fitness Más que Dietas. She joined NutraSign as COO in 2018, applying her food safety knowledge to the company's traceability processes and digital applications.

Michigan University graduate Ronald Wijaya has a bachelor’s and a master’s in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation, Wijaya worked at Indonesian confectionery and beverage company PT. United Family Food, first as an Operations Manager and then as a Project Manager. He was also a volunteer on a missionary trip to Kolkata, India, to help underprivileged children and youths. Wijaya continues to work in Lemonilo, the health food company that was born from Konsula’s pivot, and is currently co-CEO of the company.

Founded in 2014, Stellar Kapital is a VC and investment firm that seeks to empower new entrepreneurs and launch new tech events including a cultural and music Stellar Fest in 2018.  Its first fund of US$10 million was mainly invested in real-sector companies. Armed with a second investment fund of US$25 million, Stellar Kapital is looking to invest in startups with funding ranging from US$200,000 to US$1 million. The VC also invests directly in offline companies like co-working business Freeware Spaces, Stellar Parking and Divestekno, an oil and gas company.

SoftBank announced its second Vision Fund of about $108bn in July 2019 to invest in technology startups across the world. SoftBank had originally planned to contribute $38bn to the new fund. However, its Vision Fund I was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and losses resulting in lower valuations of its investments in Uber and WeWork.In February 2020, the Japanese conglomerate decided to inject more money into the Vision Fund II before raising new funds from other LPs. With $10bn committed to the second fund by the SoftBank Group, the new fund has now invested in 13 portfolio companies including co-leading the Series C round for XAG in November 2020.

Alessandro De Sario is CEO and founder of mental health startup TherapyChat, Spain’s number one online psychotherapy platform founded in 2016. He also works for TherapyChat’s investor, the Spanish VC and startup developer Next Chance Group, on other startups in their portfolio, such as the discount aggregator app Billionhands.Prior to starting TherapyChat, De Sario spent just over three years working in different food delivery entities associated with German VC and startup incubator Rocket Internet. He oversaw the development and launch of Rocket Internet’s food delivery operations in Latin America before these entities were sold to JustEat and Delivery Hero. He was also Head of Logistics at La Nevera Roja in Spain, which was later acquired by Delivery Hero. Before these roles, De Sario spent two years in investment banking and mergers and acquisitions at HSBC in London.De Sario holds three master’s degrees: one in management from ESCP Business School; one in science from City University, London; and one in business administration from the University of Turin, Italy. He lectures part-time on International Food and Beverage Management at ESCP Business School in Turin, Italy. 

Founded by Mark Mai and Tim Draper in 2005, VenturesLab is the first internet-business incubator in China. To date it has incubated and invested in about 100 internet-related companies including Mr Food, Yunchou, Yuanchuangpai, Xiaoxianliang and Weitoutiao.

Joshua Errett graduated in philosophy in 2004 and completed a postgraduate degree in journalism in 2006. He also completed an MBA in entrepreneurial and small business operations in Indiana University in 2015.In 2004, he co-founded Torontoist.com, a media website that attracted thousands of views per day. He left the startup to join New Brunswick Telegraph Journal as a reporter for one year before becoming digital managing editor for NOW magazine. In 2013, he went on to work for three years as a senior producer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).He met Shannon Falconer at a cat rescue project in Toronto. The two pet owners co-founded the biotech Because Animals in 2016 to create more sustainable food for dogs and cats. Errett worked as a marketing manager at Equitable (EQ) Bank before working full-time as COO at Because Animals.

Lynette Kucsma has an MBA and BSc Marketing. She has worked in the technology and consumer goods sectors, including a marketing and communication role in Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft.Based in Barcelona, she is passionate about healthy eating and technology. In 2012, Kucsma co-founded Natural Machines to design food-grade home appliances for both B2B and B2C customers. The company recently launched a 3D food printer equipped with laser-cooking technology.Kucsma was named by CNN as one of “7 tech superheroes” to watch. She also mentors startups in the hardware and IoT space.
