At the age of 19, Alvin Yap started his first business while studying at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. The retail venture for customized phone screen covers was dissolved after one year in 2005. The young business student had also worked at McDonald's, becoming a crew leader within the first year in 2001.During his national service as a platoon sergeant in 2008, Alvin and friends often joined and won several business enterprise competitions. Alvin went on to set up mobile games portal TheMobileGamer that lasted for over six years until April 2015. Laku6 was established a month later.

Nelson Pereira graduated in Graphic and Industrial Design at Aveiro University in 2005 and obtained a master’s in Engineering Design from the University of Porto in 2009. He also spent a year studying Digital Communications and Multimedia at the University of Porto in 2012.He has worked as a designer and brand manager for INEGI Porto for over nine years until 2015. He founded his first enterprise TOP Research in 2012 that later evolved into TOPDOX. Pereira currently works for Dropbox and Xpand IT. He is also co-founder and CEO of ikuTeam, a file-sharing developer for Atlassian Marketplace.

Before co-founding Ximalaya with Yu Jianjun, Chen Xiaoyu worked as an investment director at one of Thailand's largest conglomerates, Charoen Pokphand Group, in its China office. However, its Vision Fund I was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and losses resulting in lower valuations of its investments in Uber and WeWork.In February 2020, the Japanese conglomerate decided to inject more money into the Vision Fund II before raising new funds from other LPs. With $10bn committed to the second fund by the SoftBank Group, the new fund has now invested in 13 portfolio companies including co-leading the Series C round for XAG in November 2020.

The New Economy Fund started from an inaugural fund of US$483m, with US$150m from Bahrain-based asset manager Investcorp. In November 2019, China Everbright and Investcorp announced they will co-manage Investcorp New Economy Fund I and explore the opportunity to establish a successor private equity fund, jointly managed by the two parties, that will target China’s tech sector.
