Serena Ventures is a venture capital investment firm founded by professional tennis player and businesswoman Serena Williams. The company focuses on early-stage companies founded by young, diverse teams. Since it was founded in 2014, it has invested in more than 30 companies with a cumulative market cap of $12b. Coffee brand Kopi Kenangan is its first investment in the Indonesian market. Serena Ventures has invested in notable companies like plant-based meat maker Impossible Foods, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, as well as Serena Williams’ own fashion label, S by Serena.

Caris LeVert is a professional basketball player in the USA’s National Basketball Association league, playing for the Brooklyn Nets. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he joined the Nets in 2016, after the Indiana Pacers swapped him for Thaddeus Young in that year’s draft. In 2019, the Nets signed a three year-extension for LeVert’s contract, worth $52.5m.LeVert is managed by Roc Nation, the entertainment and sports management firm founded by musician Jay-Z. He took part in Roc Nation’s investment (via venture arm Arrive) in Indonesian coffee brand Kopi Kenangan. LeVert is also the founder of the 22 Initiative, a youth mentorship program in New York.

Jonathan Neman is a co-founder and co-CEO of USA healthy-eating restaurant franchise Sweetgreen. As co-CEO, he has managed the salad chain since opening its first outlet in 2007, raising more than $470m in VC funding in the process. Neman is also an investor in various F&B startups, such as frozen food maker EatPops and Indonesian coffee chain Kopi Kenangan.

Sofina began in 1898 as Société Financière de Transport et d’Entreprises Industrielles, an engineering conglomerate in Belgium. In the late 1960s, Sofina changed course to become an investment company. As a holding company, its major investments lie in the consumer goods, energy, and distribution sectors, with stakes in companies like Danone and communications satellite operator SES. It has also been involved in various venture capital investment activities, both as an LP to other VCs and as a VC itself, running the Sofina Growth portfolio. The Sofina Growth portfolio spans a wide range of sectors and geographies, from China to Southeast Asia, with investments in notable companies like Zilingo, Byju’s and Kopi Kenangan.

Verlinvest is the investment diversification vehicle of the de Spoelberch family, the Belgian noble house, which founded the AB InBev beverage conglomerate. Founded in 1995, it currently manages over €1.6bn in assets across multiple geographies, including Europe, India, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Aside from investing in various F&B brands like Vita Coco (coconut water), F&B Asia (which operates various restaurant franchise brands in Southeast Asia) and Glaceau Vitamin Water, it has also backed e-commerce businesses like Global Fashion Group and Lazada, as well as Indian edtech platform Byju’s. 

Lakestar is an international VC firm headquartered in Zurich. Founded in 2012 by Klaus Hommels, the VC has been an active early-stage investor since 2000. Its first fund was established in 2013 to invest in fast-growing tech startups across Europe and the US like Skype, Spotify, Facebook and Airbnb. The firm has offices in Zurich, Berlin, London, New York and Hong Kong with total investments of more than €1bn. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020, Lakestar managed to raise a total of $735m for early and growth stage funds to be invested mainly in Europe. One-third of the funds will be designated to early-stage investments and two-thirds to growth-stage companies to drive international expansion. Part of the capital will also be used to strengthen the leadership team.

Dharmash Mistry is non-executive director of the British Business Bank and the BBC. He is also a partner at LGT Lightstone, Balderton Capital and Lakestar. As an experienced venture capitalist and entrepreneur Mistry has raised and managed investment funds totaling $1bn. He is a board member and one of the early investors of unicorns like Revolut and Glovo.Mistry is the former MD of Ascential plc, formerly EMAP, B2B media business specializing in exhibitions and information services and listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). He was also the chair and co-founder of Blow Ltd, an on-demand beauty services provider in the UK. Mistry also previously held non-executive director roles in companies like Dixons Retail and Hargreaves Lansdown.

Mubadala was founded in 2017 and was directly listed as a Public Joint Stock Company, merging the Mubadala Development Company and the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).Mubadala is owned by the government of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with approximately $299bn assets under management and operations across 50 countries. Mubadala owns the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), a firm acting as an investment vehicle in high technology sectors.

Drake Enterprises is a Swiss fund with offices in New York and Miami. The board of Drake Enterprises and its committees are responsible for the direction of the group’s businesses.The firm was founded in 2000 by Mr Nicolas Ibañez Scott, born into a family of merchants and entrepreneurs with interests in Chile and the UK. The Drake Group initially focused its entrepreneurial activities on the grocery business in Chile that was then sold in 2009 to Walmart. Since 2014, the group has been focusing its investment and philanthropic activities in companies such as Papa John's and Glovo.

Lanzadera was founded in 2013 by entrepreneur Juan Roig, Spain's third richest individual and the CEO and biggest single shareholder of the country's largest supermarket group, Mercadona. Roig personally keeps track of the performance of the startups managed by the business incubator and accelerator based in Valencia, Spain.Lanzadera has invested €21m in almost 200 tech startups and consumer-focused offline businesses. To date, it has completed one exit via Groupify. Since 2016, Lanzadera has also specialized in video game development with Sony Interactive Entertainment Spain. The Lanzadera programs include training and assessments over a period of 9–11 months at its attractive Valencia marina location. 

Sony is a Japanese multinational conglomerate established in 1946. It has a high number of acquisitions, investing in more than 20 tech startups and companies manufacturing technology products. It also has a seed investment fund, Seed Acceleration Program, launched in April 2014 to promote ideas that are beyond existing business categories and develop them for commercialization.

Italy's first impact investment fund is focused mainly on assisting Italian startups. Its investment size ranges from €200,000 to €6m. Oltre Venture was founded in 2006 as Oltre Venture I by Luciano Balbo and Lorenzo Allevi, both pioneers in Europe's impact investing ecosystem and each with extensive experience in investment banking, corporate finance and VC firms.In 2016, the company launched a second investment vehicle (Oltre Venture II) which currently has a portfolio of more than 22 startups.

Ship2B is an accelerator and investor for social impact startups and spin-offs. It acts principally in three sectors: health tech, social tech for vulnerable groups and climate technology. It also fosters networking alliances between startups and large companies, and has a network of high-level mentors available to assist startups.To date, Ship2B has invested €40m in 146 startups and spin-offs.  

The Repsol Foundation, part of the Repsol Group, is committed to improving social and environmental outcomes.Repsol has launched a €50m social investment fund to be used in developing a portfolio of social enterprises focused on energy transition and social inclusion of vulnerable groups in Spain. The firm invested €9,5m during 2018. 

Spain's first social impact investment fund Creas Foundation invests in business projects which prioritize the creation of social and environmental value. It acts as an investor and partner in financial, management and strategic decisions. Its goal is to facilitate access to funding and accelerate growth of social businesses which have an innovative approach and sustainable income model. It has fixed a target of €30m to invest in social enterprise startups. The fund offers participatory loans or capital injections ranging from €5,000 to €25,000.
