The Zhang brothers co-founded Suning in 1987 and divided the business in 1999 into Suning Universal, listed as one of the top 20 real estate companies in China, and Suning Commerce, one of the largest appliance retailers in China. The investment conducted by Suning Universal in China mainly focuses on culture and entertainment industry. Suning Universal is expanding to the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Australia, France and South Korea, seeking investment opportunities in real estate, entertainment, healthcare, and culture industries.

Vincent Rosso, the co-founder of Consentio and BlaBlaCar Spain is also the chairman of GOI Travel SL. The industrial engineer has a wide range of work experience including working as an aerospace and telecom software engineer at Dassault Data Services after obtaining his master’s in 1994. He also worked as sales manager at IT firms Interwoven and Kabira Technology.He decided to become a tech investor and co-founder in 2009 with BlaBlaCar. Headquartered in Murcia, the company is involved in cargo shipping, integral logistics, domestic and international freight; as well as national and international couriers. Carex is one of the first logistics company in Europe to use blockchain technology.The founder and president of Carex Logistics is Ricardo Rúbio, a sector expert with over 30 years of experience in cargo shipping. He is also a business angel and advisor in startups that provide logistic solutions to innovate and digitalize the industry through cutting-edge technologies. 

Founded in 2011, Kika Tech is an international mobile input software developer based in Beijing. Released in 2017 and powered by an AI engine, its core product Kika Keyboard supports more than 20 languages and helps users communicate authentically by predicting intent and context to enhance expressive communication. The company has 500m users worldwide and, as of the end of 2018, earned monthly revenue of RMB 20m. Kika CTO Yao Conglei is also co-founder and CTO of Bailian.ai.

SkyDeck Berkeley is the startup accelerator initiated by the University of California, Berkeley. It was established to commercialize the university’s research arm and startup ventures of its alumni. It provides non-equity funding assistance, mentorship and networking opportunities, as well as specialist resources for not-for-profit ventures.Since 2012, SkyDeck-backed startups have raised total funding of over $1.47bn, with 17 achieving exits through acquisitions. The accelerator’s investment-arm is Berkeley SkyDeck Fund also invests about $100,000 per startup during the program. Half of the SkyDeck fund’s profits goes to UC Berkeley to support public education projects. The fund is run by Chon Tang as managing partner and Brian Bordley as principal. Contributors to the fund include private individuals, corporations and VCs like Sequoia Capital, Sierra Ventures and Canvas Ventures.

A private equity fund targeting fintech firms at the growth expansion and mature stage mainly in China, Europe, and the US. Its founding members include China Minsheng International Capital Limited (CMIC), a subsidiary of China Minsheng Investment Corporation Limited (CMI); and GF Investments (Cayman) Company Limited (GF Investments), a subsidiary of GF Securities.

China Merchants Capital (CMC), the investment management platform of China Merchants Group, was established in 2012 with a registered capital of RMB 1 billion. As of the end of 2014, it had assets under management worth nearly US$3 billion. CMC invests mainly in the infrastructure, medical & pharmaceutical, financial services, real estate, high-tech, agriculture & foods, media, equipment machinery, mining and energy sectors, among others.

Owned by the Catalan Government, the Catalan Finance Institute (ICF) is a public institution that offers a range of financing solutions, including loans and venture capital. ICF aims to boost private angel and seed investments within the Catalan entrepreneurial ecosystem, while diversifying its investment sources. In 2012, ICF started investing in early-stage startups based in the Catalan territory, providing equity loans of between €50,000 and €200,000. It also participates in syndicated funding within a network of Catalan business angels.

Horizons Ventures is a Hong Kong-based venture capital firm that manages the personal investments of Li Ka-shing, one of Hong Kong’s richest businessmen. Horizons’ investments cover a wide range of tech, media, and telecommunications companies. Standouts include artificial intelligence company DeepMind (acquired by Google in 2014), plant-based meat replacement makers Impossible Foods, and video conferencing software Zoom. It has also backed consumer-facing businesses like Atomo Coffee in Australia, Kopi Kenangan in Indonesia, and US-based distilled spirits company Endless West.

Angels Capital is an investment vehicle created by Juan Roig as part of the Marina of Companies network in Valencia. Its mission is to grow startups within the Lanzadera accelerator, as well as external projects that facilitate the creation of a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem in Valencia. Angels Capital has 13 current investment projects, seven of which it is lead investor in and, since 2014, it has invested €15.5 million in capital. Recent investments include a €1 million venture round for cloud-based workflow platform SheetGo, and €360,000 in seed funding for bank aggregation system Afterbanks.
