Tokopedia is an Indonesian e-commerce marketplace, which in 2017 become the most popular site of its kind in Indonesia. Through partnerships with fintech companies, it has added new features that enable customers to buy gold and mutual funds. Besides foreign e-commerce marketplaces like Lazada, Tokopedia’s closest rival is B2C/C2C marketplace Bukalapak, another Indonesian unicorn.

The VC arm of one of Japan's largest internet and media companies, CyberAgent Ventures specializes in the Internet-related industry. It invests in startups at various stages from the seed stage. CyberAgent has 10 offices in 8 countries mainly in Asia, including Jakarta, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Founded in 2010, East Ventures is a venture capital firm with offices in Indonesia, Japan and USA. Today, the company has invested in over 150 companies across Asia, mainly Southeast Asia and Japan, and the USA. Its ticket size ranges from US$100,000 to US$500,000.

Founded by tech entrepreneur and investor Teruhide ("Teru") Sato, Tokyo-headquartered Beenos is a seed accelerator and investor in startups from fast-growing countries such as India, Indonesia and Turkey, as well as Japan and the United States. Beenos typically invests between US$100,000 and US$3 million.

During his time at Telkom University, Muhammad Mufid Luthfi was an active student; with internships at startups like Tokopedia and Kitabisa, as well as student ambassador roles with Google and Mozilla. In 2015, he co-founded two businesses: Rias Pesta, a wedding services firm based in Riau, and IDCloudHost, a web hosting service startup.Mufid graduated in 2016 with a degree in Information Systems. He is also a trainer at Google Indonesia’s GAPURA program and a business development advisor at Gamebrott, a gaming news portal.

Indogen Capital is Indonesia’s latest VC founded in early 2017. The private fund looks for founder “athletes and shapes them into champions”, with capital injections of US$100,000 to US$500,000.VC advisor and Tokopedia co-founder, Leonitus Alpha Edison is passionate about mentoring startups on how to negotiate founder-friendly deals.The other VC partners are: Hendry Willy (Leon’s friend and founder of, private equity veteran Teezar Firmansyah, Nararya Ciputra Sastrawinata of business tycoon family in real estate and Ciputra University. Indogen’s CEO Chandra Firmanto is Leon’s childhood friend whose family business had joint ventures with Ciputra. 

Established in August 2017, Insignia Ventures Partners is a newly-founded VC by former Sequoia Capital partner Yinglan Tan, a Stanford and Carnegie Mellon alumnus who joined Sequoia in 2012. He had also worked for 3i, Taiwanese AI startup Appier and has been with Indonesia’s Tokopedia since 2014.Starting with maiden funds worth US$120 million, Insignia has invested US$1 million in Indonesia’s B2B platform for the F&B sector Stoqo. Its lead round of US$3.5 million, for co-working spaces EV Hive in September 2017, was joined by Intudo Ventures, Pandu Sjahrir and other prominent angel investors.
