Unbabel Co-founder and CTO Graça is a machine learning and natural language processing specialist and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Portugal, where he majored in Computer Engineering. He is also a former postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Besides working at Unbabel, Graça is a researcher at the IST's Spoken Language Systems Lab (L2F) in Lisbon and an official member of Forbes Technology Council. He also briefly worked at adtech startup Dezine as Chief Scientist.

Seasoned designer Bruno Silva has multiple years of experience as a 3-D artist, web designer and advertising art director. He had worked at various companies, including at multinational marketeers J. Walter Thompson and adtech startup Dezine, before co-founding Unbabel with a few Dezine colleagues in 2013. Silva is currently Unbabel’s lead designer as well as editor. He studied communication design at IADE School of Design in Madrid. 

While majoring in Computer Science at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE), Hugo Silva co-founded Unbabel, where he is a full stack developer and now works full-time. Before college, Silva had worked as a web developer at various companies, including Dezine, which was co-founded by fellow Unbabel co-founder Vasco Pedro, Streetdog Studio and Bomsite. 

A former VP at Nasdaq-listed eFuture, a supplier of software and services to China’s retail and consumer goods industries, Zhao Tingchao has a PhD and a bachelor’s degree from Chongqing University. He had two years of experience in O2O commerce before founding Jimaisong; and was also founder and Chief Editor of Electronics World Magazine (writing on e-commerce).

The former senior executive of b5m.com has designed, developed and operated browser plug-ins. Wang Min led www.b5m.com’s growth to 5 million daily active users, while its e-commerce system also reached over 100 million visits daily.

Former co-founder of Nasdaq-listed eFuture Zou Hongjun helped built the supply chain IT systems of over 50% of China’s top 100 chain-store enterprises. The Chongqing University graduate also has years of experience in fresh food e-commerce.

A former senior executive of eFuture, Zhang Sen specializes in marketing and customer management. He was also once employed at home furnishing & DIY stores Orient Home and B&Q.

Leading media commentator and former Sina Weibo key man Shen Chen is a sociology graduate from Soochow University, and holds an MBA from the Capital University of Economics and Business. Previously at China Mobile and China Telecom, Shen, however, is better known for being part of the team at Sina Weibo who took the company public. With proceeds from his stock options, Shen founded Panda iMedia. Today, some 200 of his colleagues at Panda iMedia were also from Sina.

Jin Xing has more than 10 years of experience in internet technology, including at TOM (as development manager), MOP.com (product operations director), and Tencent’s Tenpay (product operations director).

Jiang Zhen is a former university lecturer and senior executive in logistics.

Risk management specialist Li Yu is a former Alibaba executive, with experience at Yahoo, Taobao, Aliyun (Alibaba’s cloud computing unit).

Having spent some 15 years in China’s indie, hip hop and rock music scenes, Li Hongjie was editor-in-chief of the local Rolling Stones and Popular Songs magazines; and is founder of Chinese hip hop music label, Dragon Tongue Records. He is also founder and CEO of the Zhangbei Prairie Music Festival.

A Jack of many trades, Xue Shuai majored in investment at East China Normal University, and pursued postgraduate studies in Chinese painting. He dabbled in selling wine and tourism, before joining Huawei as a project manager in 2001 (the year China entered the WTO), traveling across China and overseas (India, Thailand, Nepal, etc.) for work. Xue quit Huawei in 2008, spent a “gap year” mountaineering, before founding Yunjiazheng.

A farmer's son who became an astronomer, Liu Chuanjun is also a serial entrepreneur. After his first startup (selling high-end organic food) failed after six months, Liu founded group-buying site Wowo (aka 55tuan), now Nasdaq-listed, which he sold it in 2011, to refocus on farm products. Liu majored in astronomy and holds a master’s from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where his research areas included spaceflights of Chinese space program Shenzhou 6 and 7. He was born in 1982 in Shandong and goes home every year to help work the land.

A teenage prodigy who was admitted to the University of Science and Technology of China at aged 14, graduating at aged 18, Xu Xueyin built his career at leading tech names before co-founding Meicai. He held IT development jobs at eBay and Baidu, and in July 2010, joined ex-Googler Lee Kai-fu’s incubator Innovation Works as program founder and CTO.
