Having seen his parents struggle to provide his brother with intensive physical rehabilitation, Virgílio Bento (b. 1984) understood the many pain points faced by the patients and their families. Bento graduated from the University of Aveiro with a master’s in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, and went on to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering. There, he developed SWORD Phoenix which would go on to be the technology behind SWORD Health, a startup Bento founded and of which he is currently CEO. Bento is also a co-founder of Findster Technologies, a dual pet tracker and fitness tech.

Krijn De Nood is the Dutch co-founder and CEO at cell-based meat startup Meatable, the first to claim a highly scalable culture technology with the use of pluripotent stem cells, where he has worked since 2018. He previously worked at McKinsey for six-and-a-half years in Amsterdam, New York and in Kenya. Prior to that, he worked as an equity derivatives trader at derivative trading company All Options after a short stint at Barclays Capital.De Nood holds two first degrees from the University of Amsterdam, in philosophy and in economics and finance. 

Leo Zhu received his PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he specialized in statistical modeling of computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI), He was a student of Professor Alan Yuille whose PhD in theoretical physics was supervised by Dr Stephen Hawking. Prior to co-founding and becoming the CEO of China’s leading AI technology startup YITU Healthcare, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s AI laboratory and a research fellow at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.

Islamic finance and marketing expert Else Fernanda earned his bachelor’s in Accounting from Universitas Indonesia, the national university; a master’s in Finance from the University of Strathclyde; and a certificate in Human Resources from Atma Jaya University. After working in the finance industry, he founded an Islamic finance and marketing consulting company in 2004. In 2011, he co-founded the Paramadina Islamic Management Institute (PIMI). He co-founded FAST8, a human resources tech company, in 2008 with his wife, Afia Fitriati. They also founded Gadjian, an HR management SaaS startup. Today, Else is also a lecturer at Paramadina University and a member of Sharia Supervisory Board for four companies.

An Accounting graduate from Indonesia, Novistiar Rustandi went to the US to obtain an MBA and a master’s in Information Systems Technology at the George Washington University.He worked as a manager at PwC in Washington DC for seven years before returning home in 2011 to set up Nextweb Technologies. He was also a director at a startup incubator Jakarta Founder Institute for almost five years. He became a co-founder and the CEO of PT Haruka Evolusi Digital Utama in April 2013. He also lectures at Bina Nusantara University and Surya University during his free time.

Ahmad Rizqi Meydiarso is a highly skilled programmer specializing in platform design. He completed a bachelor’s and a master’s in Computer Engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology in Germany, under the Infotronik-Programm sponsored by Airbus.After graduating in 2014, he worked at Airbus Defence and Space for a year, developing simulators for various applications including one for the Eurofighter Typhoon. In 2015, he co-founded YesBoss, a virtual assistant app, now known as chatbot engine Kata.ai. He served as CTO until end 2018, stepping back to focus on his own startup Feedloop. Ahmad remains an advisor for Kata.ai.

Dubbed “star performer” in angel investor Leo Wang (Wang Lijie)’s portfolio. Big on social networks, Liu was part of China’s first social media generation. She worked in 13 different jobs before founding Shuimu. Her first “startup” experience was at aged 15, running an online store selling cut-out CDs on the then three-month-old Taobao, using her uncle’s Internet connection in a rural village in Shaanxi. Liu proclaims herself as “the most movie-savvy person in the internet circle, plus the most internet-savvy person in the movie circle” – i.e., the first to connect the two worlds in China.

Ukraine-born entrepreneur Eugene Danilkis holds a bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia and a master’s in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University. His expertise in design and technology kickstarted his career. From 2005 to 2008, Danilkis designed NASA-approved software for the International Space Station at Canadian spacetech MDA. He now designs software for fintechs and banks through Mambu, a Berlin-based startup he co-founded in 2011, of which he is also CEO. Danilkis has also been employed by both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of British Columbia to work in software and web development.

Natali Ardianto is a fast and skilled web developer with over 16 years of programming experience. He worked as an IT instructor and as a web developer while reading a degree in Computer Science and a master’s in Information Technology at Universitas Indonesia.He and colleagues had built a golf booking platform in just three months in 2010. He left Golfnesia in 2011 to help launch Tiket.com within 100 days of co-founding the startup. He had also co-founded Urbanesia in 2008, but left the urban lifestyle directory in 2010 before it was acquired by the Kompas Group in 2012.

However, by July 2016 he had left the company, and joined Phoenix Television as a vice-president and the general manager of Phoenix News Services. ePeizhen was acquired by Paiyipai (a online healthcare company) in September that year. In January 2015, he founded ePeizhen, a mobile healthcare startup. With 15 years of experience in the Chinese internet industry, Yue Jianxiong was the general manager of Sohu News at the peak of his career, committing years to building it into one of China’s top online news sites. He left Sohu in August 2014.

Pablo Flores Peña pursued his undergraduate and master’s studies in aeronautical engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. On graduation in 2005, he joined the Airbus Group where he is currently the chief engineer for the A320 jetliner family. Besides his work at Airbus, he also founded Drone Hopper and became its CEO in 2015. He received the 2017 award for aeronautical innovation from the Official Spanish Association of Aeronautical Engineers (COIAE) for his work at Drone Hopper, a startup dedicated to the design and manufacture of self-guided drones for fire extinction and large crops fumigation.

Bruno Bianchi always wanted to be his own boss. He started a Costa del Sol Spanish jewelry import business in 2004, sourcing from Thailand and India. Then he became the sales director of Miguel Ángel Palomo SA to expand the Spanish olive business internationally. He had also worked as a cook in Ireland and Denmark.The Argentinian speaks English, Spanish, French, Italian and Danish. The COO of Spotahome joined the startup as a co-founder at a later stage when the proptech idea was revived by CEO Artacho.

Raúl Tapias Herranz was previously a sales manager with Galp Energy. While coordinating a digital transformation project at Galp, Tapias decided to leave behind 17 years in the energy sector to establish digital identity startup Ecertic, where he is currently CEO. Tapias holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Carlos III University in Madrid, which he partially studied in Maastricht in the Netherlands, as well as completing a master's in Marketing and Sales Management from IE Business School.

Pandu Kartika Putra is a co-founder of smart retail kiosk startup Warung Pintar and was its interim product manager until he left the company in August 2018. Pandu was briefly an associate for civic projects at East Ventures before establishing Warung Pintar with East Ventures colleague Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro in 2017. Pandu is currently focused on Code for Bandung, an initiative that promotes collaboration between citizen coders and the municipal government. Pandu holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia and had worked as a network administrator at his alma mater for two years.

Guillermo Lamelas Nogueira is a telecommunications engineer who is the co-founder of Alén Space and of which he has been CEO since 2018. His previous experience in the telecommunications sector and in international startup acceleration include HTI & Berren AG in Switzerland and Karlenkaski, OY in Finland. Lamelas has also held various managerial positions at Telefónica de España S.A.U. from 2000 to 2015 and had established Impact before joining Alén Space. Guillermo studied at Spain's Vigo University and graduated with an MBA from INSEAD in 2006. He has also participated in two expert programs on cooperation and development and the Internet.
