Jose Luis Vega de Seoane graduated in 2012 as a software engineer from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has also completed a global management program at IESE Business School.In 2013, he co-founded video games developer Upplication as CEO. The mobile app maker was sold in 2017 to Mobusi, a leading digital marketing company. He left Upplication in 2018 and became a digital strategy advisor at the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX).In 2018, he co-founded Capaball as COO. He is also a mentor at Conector Startup accelerator and a board member of IBECOSOL. In 2020, the serial entrepreneur has founded two new startups: Heris, a platform to cure patients affected by aphasia and a digital marketing agency Trevol.

Nikhil Kaushik is one of the three co-founders of a startup company and MIT spin-off, Graviky Labs, which he began together with Anirudh Sharma and Nitesh Kadyan. The company developed AIR-INK, an industrial and customer-grade ink made of upcycled carbon emissions that are captured and purified through patented proprietary technology.  At Graviky Labs, Kaushik heads its operations and finance, and formerly oversaw its supply chain and business relations.Kaushik is a qualified chartered accountant. Prior to Graviky Labs,  he worked in Ernst & Young managing tax advisory and compliance work for large Indian and international corporates.  Kaushik was named one of Foreign Policy magazine's 100 Global Thinkers in 2016 along with the other Graviky Labs co-founders.

Tessa Wijaya joined Indonesian fintech Xendit as co-founder and COO in 2016, a year after the payment gateway startup graduated from the Y Combinator program and launched its platform in Indonesia.Wijaya obtained a master’s in philosophy from the University of Sydney in 2006 after graduating from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 2003. She returned to Indonesia and worked as a corporate development officer for over three years. In 2010, she became an analyst at Principia Management Group and Fairways Investment Group, both being Southeast Asia-focused investment firms. In 2013, Wijaya went on to work as an associate at Singapore-based investment firm Mizuho Asia Partners for over three years before joining Xendit back in Jakarta.

Concept Investimentos is a Brazilian mid-market private equity investor based in São Paulo. Focusing mainly on medtech, the firm was established in 2016 with its first investment in Maquira, a leading manufacturer of dental products in Brazil. It has invested in three companies so far, including participation in the R$1.7m seed investment round of Brazilian edtech Blox.Founding partner Rafael Pilotto Gonçalez previously worked at Pacific Investimentos’ private equity division and Pacific’s partnership with One Equity Partners, JPM’s former global private equity arm in Brazil. He has also worked for the private equity arm of Banco Votorantim and London-based private equity firm Actis.

Founded in Amsterdam in 2014, Rubio Impact Ventures was formerly known as Social Impact Ventures. The VC currently invests in sustainability-focused startups that are predominantly based in the Netherlands and north-western Europe. Ben Morton is an Australian entrepreneur and a chemical engineer by training. While serving in the Royal Australian Infantry, he attended Flinders University, pursuing a double honours degree in physics and organic chemistry. After graduating in 2013, Morton briefly worked as a chemist at fertilizer company SprayGro. In 2016, he enrolled at the University of Adelaide to pursue a PhD in Chemical Engineering. There, he joined Philip Kwong’s research group and met fellow PhD student Lewis Dunnigan. Using technology they developed at the research group, in 2017 Morton, and Dunnigan established Bygen, a startup offering a low-cost, novel way process of making activated carbon using various forms of agricultural waste, with Kwong as a technical adviser and fellow co-founder. Morton is now CTO of Bygen.

SoftBank announced its second Vision Fund of about $108bn in July 2019 to invest in technology startups across the world. SoftBank had originally planned to contribute $38bn to the new fund. However, its Vision Fund I was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and losses resulting in lower valuations of its investments in Uber and WeWork.In February 2020, the Japanese conglomerate decided to inject more money into the Vision Fund II before raising new funds from other LPs. With $10bn committed to the second fund by the SoftBank Group, the new fund has now invested in 13 portfolio companies including co-leading the Series C round for XAG in November 2020.

The Plantbase Foundation is a non-profit institution run by entrepreneur and impact investor Willem Blom based in The Netherlands. Most of the Plantbase activities are backed by donors. Founded in Washington DC in 2016, AV Ventures is co-founded by US not-for-profit organizations, the Agricultural Cooperative Development International and Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance.AV Ventures focuses on supporting SMEs that facilitate financing for farmers to improve sustainable supply chain management and boost social impact in Africa and Central Asia. Investments in tech startups include the $790,000 seed round of AgroCenta in January 2021. Through AV Frontiers in Bishkek, the VC also recently participated in April’s investment round of Kyrgyzstan-based ololoAkJol Resort, a hub for digital nomads, or independent remote workers.

Founded in 2011 in Leipzig, Monkfish Equity offers a hands-off investment approach, providing funding of €0.5m–€2m to enterprises across market segments in Germany, other European countries and the US.The firm is run by the co-founders of travel and hotel platform Trivago. Monkfish’s portfolio of 12 companies mainly comprises businesses in the B2C markets. Investments include the $54m Series B round of Austrian marketplace Refurbed in August 2021 and the €8m Series A round of Inne, a German fertility-tracking platform in October 2019.
