Tuomas Knowles is co-founder of Britain’s Xampla, producer of plant-based biodegradable plastics made from protein, which was founded in 2018 based on his team’s pioneering research.  Knowles is a professor of physical chemistry and biophysics at Cambridge University, where he has worked since 2010 and manages the Knowles Lab which focuses on researching protein self-assembly underlying neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Knowles holds a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Cambridge and a degree in physics from ETH Zurich, a science and technology university. 

Vostok New Ventures is a Swedish investment company that invests globally in companies with network effects, founded in 2007. It has a special focus on the areas of real estate, recruitment and job sites, travel and transportation services and general classified ads. It participates in growth-stage companies and has invested in 27 companies, 18 of which as leading investor. Its exits are Avito, Quandoo and Delivery Hero.

Bånt AB is the investment vehicle of Karl Sverker Forsén based in Luleå, a coastal city in Swedish Lapland. In May 2020, the Swedish family office invested in a Gothenburg startup Mycorena, a biotech that produces mycoproteins through fermentation. The fungi-based protein can be used as an alt-protein ingredient instead of traditional plant-based food components.

Mitchell Presser is a New York-based lawyer. He is currently co-chair of global law service Morrison & Foerster’s Global Corporate Department and a partner in the firm’s M&A and Private Equity group, advising on agriculture, amongst other areas. He previously was a founding partner of Paine Schwartz, a US-based $1.2 bn private equity firm specializing in sustainable food chain investing from 2006 to 2014. His sole disclosed angel investment to date was an undisclosed sum in the pre-seed funding of NovoNutrients, the US-based biotech producer of alt-protein from fermentation using CO2 and other emissions, 

Founded in 2016 by Gary Schefsky, New Luna Ventures focuses on sustainable investments in diverse sectors including agriculture, food tech, precision farming, materials, real estate, renewables, water technology, communications, SaaS, AI and robotics. Schefsky has worked in emerging startup sectors for over 25 years and as a family office fiduciary for more than 17 years. Based in San Francisco, the firm’s limited partners include family offices, institutional investors and individuals.

SoftBank announced its second Vision Fund of about $108bn in July 2019 to invest in technology startups across the world. SoftBank had originally planned to contribute $38bn to the new fund. However, its Vision Fund I was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and losses resulting in lower valuations of its investments in Uber and WeWork.In February 2020, the Japanese conglomerate decided to inject more money into the Vision Fund II before raising new funds from other LPs. With $10bn committed to the second fund by the SoftBank Group, the new fund has now invested in 13 portfolio companies including co-leading the Series C round for XAG in November 2020.

The municipal government of Wuhan launched Wuhan S&T Angel Venture Fund in September 2013. With RMB 300 million under management, the fund is operated by Wuhan S&T Angel Venture Fund Management Co., Ltd. It invests mainly in the information technology, new materials, advanced equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, new energy, automotive, energy conservation, environmental protection and modern agriculture fields.

Credit Ease Financial Industry Investment Fund was founded in 2016 and now manages a combined total of RMB 3 billion and US$ 500 million. It has invested in more than 20 Fintech companies around the world.

Hengqin CIMC Readysun Innovation & Entrepreneurship Investment Fund is a VC fund set up by China International Marine Containers (CIMC) and Shenzhen Readysun Investment Group on June 14, 2017. The fund focuses on fast-growing high-end equipment manufacturing and new technology sectors, such as intelligent logistics, industrial automation and robots, industrial internet, green new materials.

Srinivasa Hatcheries is part of the SH Group that was set up in 1978. Based in Hyderabad, the diversified public-listed group started in poultry farming in 1965. Its first disclosed startup investment was in the Series A round of alternative protein startup String Bio in 2019.The Mega Food Park is a hi-tech chicken and egg processing facility. The Srinivasa farms also manufacture and supply poultry feed in India. Its HiPro Soybean meal has the most concentrated amount of protein in the market. The group is also involved in agriculture, goat breeding and food retailing.

Robert Yanis Cianni is the Italian-born co-founder and Head of Sales at Italo-Spanish insect protein manufacturer Nutrinsect, where he has worked since 2016. He previously worked in the food and insurance sector.   

Headquartered in Zhengzhou, China Reform TUS Fund is China's first capital management fund. Jointly backed by state-level venture capital funds, top Chinese universities and the provincial government, it invests primarily in new energy, healthcare and information technology.

Qinghan Fund was founded in 2017 by Crystal Stream, New Hope Group and Chinese celebrity Lu Han. Its largest shareholder is Wang Mengqiu, former vice president of Baidu. Qinghan Fund invests primarily in teams (e.g., small groups of people running a WeChat Official Account) that create professionally generated content, media and platforms which cater to the next generation's lifestyle and consumption upgrade needs.

Beijing Zhongguancun Development Qihang Industrial Investment Fund was launched by Zhongguancun Development Group, a hi-tech commercialization platform backed by the municipal government of Beijing. It focuses on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, next-generation information technology, new energy, new materials and intelligent manufacturing. 

Global Investment Fund (GIF) is an impact investment fund supporting new ventures that are solving social problems in the developing world. Besides investing through debt, equity investments and SAFE (simple agreement for future equity) contracts, GIF also disburses grants for social enterprises. It invests in various sectors, including agriculture and aquaculture, health, education, water and fintech.
