Ma Yi earned dual bachelor's degrees in Automation and Applied Mathematics from Tsinghua University in 1995. He obtained a master’s and also a doctorate in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 1997 and 2000 respectively.He worked as an assistant professor and later as associated professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2000 to 2011. He was the lead researcher and director of the computer vision team at Microsoft Research from 2009 to 2014. Nuno Fonseca is the sole founder of Sound Particles, the Portuguese 3D audio software platform for sound designers.
