InnovationRCA is the Royal College of Art’s center for entrepreneurship and commercialization. It supports RCA students, alumni and employees looking to turn their ideas into new businesses. The center was established in 2004 and is based in London.The centre’s activities include providing startup incubation and acceleration services to potential RCA spin-offs. This includes coaching and business mentoring based on RCA’s design-led, user-centric approach, as well as intellectual property advice and support. In addition, the center offers access to office and workshop space, as well as funding. InnovationRCA runs its own angel investor network, AngelClubRCA. It has also partnered with a UK-based VC, Venrex Investment Management, to improve RCA startups’ access to private funding. The economics graduate from the University of Porto launched his first business, software company Grey Matter, while in college. It was then that Neves started learning about the fashion industry, through building operating systems for footwear and textile business clients. He also designed shoes under the brand Swear, and after moving to the UK, Neves opened the brand’s physical store before moving to launch a menswear shop called B Store. He is currently CEO of Farfetch, the non-executive director at the British Fashion Council and the non-executive chairman at PLATFORME International.

In 2012, he set up the SpeechLab, which specializes in intelligent speech recognition technology R&D, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a professor at SJTU.
