Beijing-based Telescope Investments is a VC/PE firm, investing primarily in consumer, supply chain, education, and healthcare sectors. Telescope is founded by Du Yucun, former CEO of Tianjin HomeWorld Group, a Chinese supermarket chain, and SAIF Partners. Du Yucun is the son of Du Sha, one of China’s most well-known and respected entrepreneurs. Du Sha is the founder and chairman of Pacific Links, a former acclaimed Professor of Economics at the Nankai University, and founder of HomeWorld Group. Cody Frieson is the US founder and CEO of SOURCE Global (formerly Zero Mass Water), the first off-grid drinking water production tech based on solar-powered panels. The Arizona State University Fulton Engineering School professor of innovation invented the Hydropanel, the key to SOURCE’s technology, and continues to teach part-time at the university. He is also a fellow at both the NGO Aspen Institute, which is committed to realizing a free, just and equitable society, and also at Unreasonable – an entity composed of entrepreneurs, institutions and investors dedicated to “discover profit in solving global problems.”Frieson was also previously founder, president and CTO of rechargeable zinc battery startup Fluidic Energy, another of his inventions, where he worked from 2007 to 2013, when it was acquired and became NantEnergy. In 2019, Freison won the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize for innovations to benefit the world – the US’ most prestigious student innovation award with a $500,000 prize. Frieson holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). 

Shwe Yamin Oo graduated in computer science at the University of Computer Studies in Yangon in 2007. She has also completed a business management diploma in 2013.In March 2009, she established Shwe Bon Thar computer training center and became the COO and co-founder of its internet center and mart until 2013. In 2014, she founded an accounting tech startup Modern Boss mobile POS for local SMEs. She exited the fintech in 2017 to set up RecyGlo as CEO.In 2019, she was nominated for the Women of the Future awards for Southeast Asia in the Science, Technology and Digital categories. She is also a mentor at Yangon’s Founder Institute.

Warren Shaeffer is the co-founder of online video community Vidme. He was also COO of SocialEngine, co-founded by Vidme co-founder Alex Benzer. He had also worked at Golden Gate Capital and JPMorgan. Shaeffer received his bachelor’s degree in Government from Harvard University and was a Detur Book Prize recipient.

Bandung Institute of Technology graduate Nugroho Heru Cahyono was a freelance programmer and a CTO for digital agency Suitmedia before co-founding BukaLapak. He holds a bachelor degree in Informatics.

KK Fund is named after Koichi Saito and Kuan Hsu. Founder and general partner Koichi was formerly from IMJ Investment Partners and a private equity fund run by George Soros. Co-founder and general partner Kuan had previously worked at Goldman Sachs, Temasek Holdings and GREE Ventures.Another KK partner or LP is Masahiko Honma, co-founder and general partner of Incubate Fund based in Japan. KK Fund focuses mainly on internet and mobile startups in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan; with possible seed stage funding ranging from US$100,000 to US$400,000 per startup.

Armed with Asian and European experience, Miguel Amaro co-founded Uniplaces in 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Nottingham, and took a course in Chinese Studies at East China Normal University. He obtained his master’s in Management, with a concentration in Global Entrepreneurship, from Babson Graduate School. Amaro also spent two months as an analyst at Grameen Bank in Dhaka, Bangladesh. While developing Uniplaces, he was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Picvic Labs (France), Zhejiang University Innovation Institute (China) and Osram (United States). Amaro is currently part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers. As an investor, to date, he has only invested in Portuguese healthy food service EatTasty and part funding the company's angel, pre-seed and seed rounds, with undisclosed investments. 

Joe Zhou graduated from Beijing University of Technology in 1982 and worked five years as a lecturer at his alma mater. In 1987, he went to study in the US and obtained a master’s at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1989. He stayed in New Jersey and worked for five years at AT&T Bell Labs and its spin-off Lepton Inc.In 1995, Zhou returned to work in China as the VP of UTStarcom China until 1999 when he joined Softbank China Venture Capital as the head of its Beijing office. In October 2001, he became a partner at Softbank’s SAIF for five years. In 2007, he became a founding managing partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers China. In April 2008, he co-founded Keytone Ventures as managing partner.

Having attained a master’s in Electronics, Digital Media & Game Technologies in 2013 from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Indonesia, Walesa Danto continues to have a passion for creative IT products and hardware as a software engineer.Walesa’s Limakilo mobile app won a hackathon Code4Nation award in August 2015, as one of three Best App winners to solve Indonesia’s commodities issues.The former lecturer at Telkom Institute of Technology, now known as Telkom University, always feels challenged to deliver new products with a focus on user experience using the User Centered Design approach.

Carles Ferrer Ramis, AEInnova’s Chief Scientific Officer, is a physicist with a doctoral degree and experience in microelectronics for space applications. He obtained his PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in Microelectronics and Electronic Systems, joining the Computer Science department in 1984 where he held an associate professor position until 2007. Between 2005 and 2016, Ferrer was the director of the Space Studies and CERES Research Center at the same university. He was also deputy director at the Catalan Space Studies Institute (IEEC) and is a researcher at the National Microelectronics Center's Barcelona Microelectronics Institute.

Dou received her master's degree in International Chinese Language Education from Shandong University in 2014. She worked in the TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) sector for over 10 years, including as a TCSL teacher at the Confucius Institute in South Korea, as product manager at the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Open University of China and as teacher at Shandong University. Before founding Funnybean Technology, parent company of M Mandarin, in 2016, she helped design the app Hello HSK - a platform for foreigners to learn and prepare for the HSK tests.

Formerly a debt analyst at the Portuguese Treasury and Government Debt Agency, José Salgado graduated in Management from the New University of Lisbon and holds master’s degrees in Finance from the University Institute of Lisbon and the Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware. Salgado is currently Chief Growth Officer at 360imprimir, a B2B printing marketplace he co-founded in 2013 after passing on an offer of a free grant to study at INSEAD to establish his business. He also holds an MSc in Finance from Lisbon's Superior Institute of Domestic and Business Science.

Leo Zhu received his PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he specialized in statistical modeling of computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI), He was a student of Professor Alan Yuille whose PhD in theoretical physics was supervised by Dr Stephen Hawking. Prior to co-founding and becoming the CEO of China’s leading AI technology startup YITU Healthcare, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s AI laboratory and a research fellow at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.

After his master's degree, Wang Chenxi joined Baidu in 2012 and has been working in R&D of machine learning platforms at the Deep Learning Institute of Baidu.
