A self-taught developer and NLP engineer, Álvaro Abella Bascarán is co-founder and Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Spanish medtech IOMED Medical Solutions, which facilitates data extraction from electronic health records. He has also worked as frontend developer, a backend developer, a data scientist and an NLP engineer. For his master’s in Bioinformatics for Health Science at Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University, Abella completed an internship at QMENTA, formerly Mint Labs. This is a US drug development startup dedicated to brain diseases, where Abella gained knowledge of computational neuroscience. He also holds a first degree from the University of Oviedo in Biotechnology.  

Honduran-born Clelia Morales graduated in Marketing in 1995 at the Central American Technological University in Tegucigalpa. She worked in Honduras for two years as marketing manager for a local bank.In 1997, she moved to London for work experience at Image Communications before embarking on a career in PR and marketing at PR agency Porter Novelli. In 2006, Morales joined eBay Europe as head of PR and Communications. She spent nine years working at eBay, rising to become the head of marketing for France, Italy and Spain before leaving to start Woom in 2015 as COO and co-founder with former eBay colleague Laurence Fontinoy.

Belgian-born Laurence Fontinoy graduated in Commercial Engineering at Belgium’s Louvain Catholic University in 1994 and went on an exchange program for one year at New York’s Stern Graduate Business School. She worked for almost four years at Belgacom Mobile in Belgium, where she supervised the launch of its first prepaid card. In 1999, she moved to the Netherlands to join Dutch telecoms provider Ben as a customer development manager. After completing an MBA in 2002 at IESE University of Navarra, the mother-of-three joined eBay Spain as head of category and seller development. In 2005, she was promoted to marketing and communications director but left in 2008 to join Google as the regional country marketing manager for Spain and Portugal. In 2015, she left to become the CEO and co-founder of WOOM with former eBay colleague Clelia Morales.

Yang Kaikai graduated in 2013, majoring in English Language and Literature at Shanghai Ocean University.In March 2016, she joined Tencent Incubator to work as a marketing and business development manager. She left Tencent in October 2016 and co-founded Energo Labs as COO, responsible for the strategic and global expansion of the company in Asia. In September 2018, Yang also co-founded Dipole Tech, a blockchain-based renewable energy management and trading platform.Yang is co-chair of the Energy Blockchain Leadership Committee and founded the Asian Cleantech Entrepreneurs Community (ACTEC) to connect entrepreneurs focusing on sustainable development and the environment. In 2019, she was nominated as one of 600 entrepreneurs 30 under 30 by the Forbes China.

Liu Mingchuan graduated in 2018 with a master’s in Power System and Automation at North China Electric Power University. He joined Energy Blockchain Laboratory as a senior analyst in February 2018. He is also one of the content contributors of the 2018 white paper on China's blockchain industry. He co-founded Dipole Tech as chief architect in September 2018.

Amir Bozorgzadeh is the Canadian-Iranian CEO and co-founder of Virtuleap, a Portugal-based cognition training and assessment VR startup, where he has worked since 2018. He also writes regularly about tech for websites such as VentureBeat and CrunchBase .He was previously based in Dubai, where he co-founded two startups: Gameguise, a gaming publisher and developer, and Time Dirham, the Middle East’s first circular economy time bank. He was also managing partner at  digital marketing agency Conovi and a consultant at digital media agencies Massive Media and BizX, both based in Dubai. He additionally worked at YouGov in business development in his decade-long Dubai residence. Bozorgzadeh’s first posts were in project and account management in Vancouver, where he also studied Management at its Sauder School of Business. He holds a first degree in Liberal Studies from Toronto’s York University and also studied the Executive Leadership Program at Amsterdam’s THINK- School of Creative Leadership. 

UK-born serial entrepreneur Edward Hamilton founded his first tech startup, Lavalocker, in Barcelona in 2013 to provide on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning services. He later built on the smart-locker technology to establish Mayordomo that launched Smart Point in 2016, a digital vending system with smart lockers to offer personal shopping, delivery and pickups for over 200 categories of goods and services. Hamilton graduated in Business Administration from Berkeley, University of California in 2000. He worked for almost four years at WP Carey & Co in New York specializing in investments and acquisitions. In March 2006, he moved to London to work as a real estate equity investment manager at Barclay’s Capital. In 2010, he went to Spain to work as a Green Bean business coach for SMEs based in Barcelona. His latest venture is Droppo, which he co-founded in 2019. Based in Barcelona, Droppo is a zero-emission electric last-mile logistics transport network.

Robert Yanis Cianni is the Italian-born co-founder and Head of Sales at Italo-Spanish insect protein manufacturer Nutrinsect, where he has worked since 2016. He previously worked in the food and insurance sector.

Jose Vidal Obón is the Spanish-born co-founder, CEO and CFO for Spain of Italo-Spanish insect protein manufacturer Nutrinsect, where he has worked since 2016. He is also on the Spanish board of insurance company AXA. Prior to Nutrinsect, he worked for six years as manager of Madrid-based insurance company Crédito y Caución and for two years as supervisor at Italian bank Banca Mediolanum. Vidal is an economics graduate.   

Formerly a debt analyst at the Portuguese Treasury and Government Debt Agency, José Salgado graduated in Management from the New University of Lisbon and holds master’s degrees in Finance from the University Institute of Lisbon and the Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware. Salgado is currently Chief Growth Officer at 360imprimir, a B2B printing marketplace he co-founded in 2013 after passing on an offer of a free grant to study at INSEAD to establish his business. He also holds an MSc in Finance from Lisbon's Superior Institute of Domestic and Business Science.

A former business analyst and adviser to the Bank of Portugal, Sérgio Vieira obtained his MBA from the University Institute of Lisbon. He gained experience in business at consultancy firm Roland Berger and in logistics as a controller at Adicional Logistics. Currently CEO of 360imprimir, a printing B2B online store he co-founded in 2013, he was an assistant professor at the University Institute of Lisbon, where he lectured in Management Accounting and Management Control, for almost seven years. He also holds a degree in Management and Business Administration from the University Institute of Lisbon.

Diogo Silva was a high-flyer at the High Institute of Engineering of Lisbon, where he not only won a grant from the Galp Energy group but was also a Microsoft Student Partner. Silva graduated with a master’s in Computer Engineering and pursued a career in IT as a consultant and software developer, before co-founding 360imprimir. Since 2013, he has worked as a head of IT at 360imprimir. In addition to his native Portuguese, Silva also speaks English and French.

An alumnus of the University Institute of Lisbon, Jorge Correia majored in Management and received his master’s in Business Administration in 2011. After graduating, Correia went on to work as an operations analyst and then a controller at B2B2C mail operator Adicional Logistics. In 2013, he co-founded 360imprimir, a printing B2B marketplace, where he works as CFO.

Jaume Puig Adamuz is co-founder and CEO of Biel Glasses, a medtech developing smart glasses for people with low vision. Prior to founding the startup in 2017, he was a pre-sales and product manager at cloud services company MediaCloud, and was the Workplace Transformation Governance Manager in the Government of Catalonia's education department, where he was in charge of its digital transformation.In total, he has over 25 years' experience as a manager in various technology companies, including British Telecom, Deustche Bank, Telefónica and Tiscali. Puig also previously founded two companies, Mobbiz Communication, a mobile marketing services company, where he worked from 2003 to 2013, and Fleet Control Systems, one of the first commercial radio and GPS fleet location and management systems, where he worked from 1995 to 1998.Puig holds a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Ramon Llull in Barcelona.
