Serial entrepreneur Pedro Oliveira has a master’s in Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. Following internships at Accenture and EDP, he worked at EDP as an IT business analyst and project manager. He later joined INOV INESC Inovação as an associate researcher and worked there for more than three years. Oliveira also has a postgraduate qualification in Foresight, Strategy and Innovation from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management.Oliveira met José Paiva at the Startup Lisboa incubator. Oliveira had founded an event management startup Entrepreneurs Break and had also established the now defunct booking site Oops!Booking in 2012. In 2013, he teamed up with Paiva to co-found online tech recruitment platform JOBBOX that was later pivoted as Landing.Jobs.

Co-founder of Seedrs, one of Europe’s most popular crowdfunding sites, and a founding member of Beta-i, a pioneer and one of the most influential organizations in the Portuguese startup scene today, Carlos Silva holds an MBA from the University of Oxford and a master’s in Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Technico. He is currently also Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Faber Ventures.

Pedro Trinité is the co-founder of ZUVINOVA, a B2B company that owns and operates Transactional Track Record (TTR). The premium online service provides transactional and financial information on Latin American and Iberian markets (M&A, Capital Markets, Project Finance and Acquisition Finance). Before ZUVINOVA, he was a director at Iberpartners and a business consultant for Accenture UK. Trinité received his International MBA degree from IE Business School and his master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior de Informática e Gestão (ISIG). He also attended the Wharton Global Consulting Practicum at the University of Pennsylvania.

This private Portuguese healthcare group was established in 2000 and based in Lisbon. It made its first investment in a startup in 2019 when it led the €600,000 seed round of medtech UpHill, a SaaS for healthcare professionals to keep up-to-speed on the latest clinical treatments and protocols using AI. The group’s Hospital da Luz was one of UpHill’s first customers.    

A master’s degree holder in Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Téchnico, Nuno Rochinha began delving into the world of web development during his college days when he learnt to code in HTML, CSS and JS. From there, Rochinha worked as a web developer in companies such as Sonaecom and Excentric. He co-founded GetSocial in 2012 and was the startup’s CTO from 2012 to 2015. Today, Rochinha is a senior developer at Runtime Revolution.

Pedro Moura combines his knowledge of Computer Science and Sociology – the former as a graduate of the Instituto Superior Technico and the latter as a postgraduate of the University of Evora – in his line of work. Moura started his career co-founding several companies such as social shopping platform Wishareit and e-commerce social platform GetSocial, where he served as CTO. He is currently an adviser for the latter and is the CEO of mobile software platform Mobizy.

Guan Ke has nearly 20 years of work experience in the media industry. He was the general manager of Shenzhen Jusiwei Advertising Co Ltd. He was also a former stockholder of Shenzhen One Media Investment Holdings Limited. He founded QinLin Technology in Shenzhen in 2015.

Unbabel Co-founder and CTO Graça is a machine learning and natural language processing specialist and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Portugal, where he majored in Computer Engineering. He is also a former postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Besides working at Unbabel, Graça is a researcher at the IST's Spoken Language Systems Lab (L2F) in Lisbon and an official member of Forbes Technology Council. He also briefly worked at adtech startup Dezine as Chief Scientist.

The Stanford-educated former Bain consultant and “haigui” studied mechanical engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is an avid traveler who has visited more than 20 countries. Currently in his early 30s, Charlwin Mao has an MBA from Stanford (class of 2011). He is not related to Chairman Mao.

Founder and Chairman of the Board at Shenma. In 2009, Chen took over Xindazhou Electric Motorcycles. She helped increase the company’s annual sales volume from 20–30 thousand to 500 thousand motorcycles in six years. During her time at Xindazhou, Chen realized there were significant untapped opportunities in rural financial services and started Shenma.

Joana Paiva graduated in 2014 with a master’s in biomedical engineering at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. She went on to complete a PhD in physics at the University of Porto in 2019.In 2014, she also worked at INESC Technology and Science for almost five years while completing her PhD thesis: Intelligent Lab on Fiber tools for sensing single-cells and extracellular nano-vesicles. It was her research that led to the founding of medtech startup iLoF.In August 2019, she co-founded iLoF as CTO. The Oxford-Oporto-based startup enables personalized medicine through the use of AI and photonics to create optical fingerprints in a cloud-based library to collate disease biomarkers and biological profiles.Based in Porto, she is also a co-inventor with three patents and 29 scientific publications. She is one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for science and healthcare and was nominated for the EIT Woman Award 2020. 

Seasoned entrepreneur Paulo Trezentos founded software development company Caixa Mágica Software in 2000. He continued to work on his business while pursuing his master’s and a PhD in Computer Science from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal. Caixa Mágica Software handled many projects, including Aptoide, an independent Android app marketplace that later became a separate company. Trezentos closed his first company in 2015. He continues to work as an assistant professor at Lisbon's University Institute ISCTE, where he lectures in Operating Systems and Computer Architecture at the bachelor's and master's levels.

Samuel Martins is an experienced software developer and founder of motorbike dealership LxMotos. He was a systems administrator at his alma mater Superior Technical Institute in Lisbon before joining IT consulting firm Crazydog in 2008 as a systems administrator and developer.In 2012, Martins and Crazydog founder Gonçalo Fortes began creating AI-powered software to improve the efficiency and productivity of local factories. In 2014, Fortes and Martins decided to team up as co-founders of Prodsmart to focus on providing IoT solutions to help SME firms to transform into digital manufacturers.

A World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, Rebeca Minguela founded Blink, a hotel booking app that was acquired by Groupon, and Clarity.AI, a SaaS optimizing the social impact of investments. She holds an engineering degree from UPM (Technical University of Madrid) Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación, and a master’s in Information Technology from the University of Stuttgart. After working at IBM, Siemens, the German Space Agency and BCG, she won a scholarship to pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School. She later led Santander Bank’s Global Digital Transformation Program. She was born in 1981 in Valladolid, Spain.
