CTO and co-founder of Knokcare (formerly Knok Healthcare)
João Magalhães is the Portuguese co-founder and CTO of medtech Knokcare, previously known as Knok Healthcare. Prior to founding Knokcare in 2015, he co-founded Iterar, a software developer that also created Knokcare’s software.Magalhães completed a master’s degree in Medicine at the University of Porto in 2014 that helped him to conceive the concept for Knokcare. He worked at Iterar for six years as a web and Android developer until 2017. He also worked in software development and systems administration at Savant for almost two years, while expanding his client portfolio at Iterar.

After graduating from Institut Teknologi Bandung with a degree in business, Andi Taufan started work on palm oil projects for IBM, traveling around Indonesia and meeting local farmers who were struggling to get small loans for their businesses.He left IBM and started Lembaga Keuangan Mikro (Micro-Finance Institution) to help rural business owners in 2010. Armed with a master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University in 2016, Andi managed to secure VC funds and transformed the original microloans co-operative into PT Amartha Micro Fintek, a P2P micro-lending platform.

In 2015, Bao Chunjian recruited a few former Tencent employees and founded a startup to help blue-collar workers find jobs but that business failed in 2016. He then started Xiaoe Tech.

Having seen his parents struggle to provide his brother with intensive physical rehabilitation, Virgílio Bento (b. 1984) understood the many pain points faced by the patients and their families. Bento graduated from the University of Aveiro with a master’s in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, and went on to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering. There, he developed SWORD Phoenix which would go on to be the technology behind SWORD Health, a startup Bento founded and of which he is currently CEO. He stayed on until 2018, when he left Intel and returned to Indonesia to establish Xurya, a solar power company. Working with longtime friend Gusmantara Himawan and former East Ventures associate Philip Effendy, Widjonarko now works as Xurya’s director of technology.
