With a PhD in molecular biology from NUS, Bao Shengjie, CEO and co-founder of Singrow, is a plant physiology expert who has been focusing his research for more than six years on expediting growth and improving yields. He grew up in Ningbo, a coastal city of China’s eastern Zhejiang Province. In 2011, he graduated from esteemed Zhejiang University with a bachelor's degree. He also studied bioinformatics at North Carolina State University, followed by studies at NUS. Since 2017, he has been an NUS research fellow. Strawberry has his favourite fruit since childhood. After moving to Singapore, he found that strawberries from the local supermarket were nothing close to those he had been eating for years. That sparked his study into the problem of Singapore’s local strawberry market, which in turn caused him to explore the urban farming industry with his plant physiology and molecular biology knowledge. Besides founding Singrow, he is the breeder of the company’s signature White Crystal Strawberry and invented the Fast Cultivation Method.

Based in San Francisco, the Mulago Foundation is a philanthropic foundation designed to carry on the life work of pediatrician Rainer Arnhold who died in 1993 while working in the mountains of Bolivia. He originally set up the Mulago Foundation in 1968, naming it after a hospital in Uganda. His Jewish family, bankers for generations, continued to support the foundation for impact investing across diverse sectors and geographies, with scalable solutions to alleviate poverty.It has invested in 61 companies to date. Successful ventures include: Kenya’s Komaza that raised $28m in its 2020 Series B and Myanmar’s Proximity Finance, a fintech for small-holder farmers that raised $14m in 2020. Komaza helps poor families turn dry land into small-scale, income-generating tree farms, benefiting more than 2m farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The center was established in 2004 and is based in London.The centre’s activities include providing startup incubation and acceleration services to potential RCA spin-offs. This includes coaching and business mentoring based on RCA’s design-led, user-centric approach, as well as intellectual property advice and support. In addition, the center offers access to office and workshop space, as well as funding. InnovationRCA runs its own angel investor network, AngelClubRCA. It has also partnered with a UK-based VC, Venrex Investment Management, to improve RCA startups’ access to private funding. In addition, the centre conducts programmes for external entrepreneurs and organisations looking to promote innovation and entrepreneurship worldwide.McKinsey has called InnovationRCA a “world-class spinout incubator", praising its work as a "significant driver of entrepreneurial growth” along with its ”impressive results".
