Founded in 2016, Paris-based Future Positive Capital invests in European startups in deep tech and biotechnology to solve major problems, with funding for only 20 portfolio startups.  It has backed eight startups to date with its most recent investments being in the April 2021 undisclosed €5.2m funding round of French renewable energytech SWEETCH Energy and in the £7.9m Series A round of British ecosystem restoration technology Dendra Systems in September 2020. 

Global technology investment firm Atomico was set up in 2006 by Skype co-founder Niklas Zennström. Since then, it has made over 140 investments with a focus on the European market. Atomico’s team of investors includes founders of six billion-dollar companies, and operational leaders at companies such as Skype, Google, Uber, Facebook and Spotify. The London-based investment company has managed 27 exits to date including Supercell, Fab, the Climate Corporation and Rovio Entertainment. Its recent investments include in Peakon's Series B, AccuRx's Series A and in Graphcore and Clutter's Series D rounds. 

Formerly known as Google Ventures and established in 2009, GV is the VC arm of Alphabet, Inc. and stresses that it invests in the “best companies, not strategic investment for Google”. GV is headquartered in Mountain View, California, with offices in San Francisco, Boston, New York, and London and it currently has over US$3.5 billion under management. It has invested in more than 600 companies across different sectors and stages, with more than 160 as lead investor and has seen 120 exits.  Its recent investments include in Lemonade and KeepTruckin's Series D rounds and in Harness' Series B.

Baidu Ventures (BV) was launched as an AI-investment arm of online search and internet conglomerate Baidu in September 2016. It has regional headquarters in Beijing and Silicon Valley. With a phase-I fund of US$200m, it focuses on early-stage AI-startups.In San Francisco, BV's non-strategic fund focuses on the AI and robotics sectors providing pre-seed to Series B funding. Headed by Saman Farid as partner since November 2017, the US team manages investments in over 70 startups including Airmap, Covariant.ai, Atomwise, 8i and Subtle Medical.

Founded in Boston in 2020, General Catalyst backs startups across all market segements at every growth stage, making seed stage investments between $500,000 and $2m. It has backed some of the most successful startups including Airbnb, Stripe and Deliveroo, and, to date, has invested in 243 companies, with 193 in its portfolio currently.  A prolific investor, often making 10 investments or more per month, its most recent investments include in the July 2021 $5m seed round of US medtech, Evvy, designers of a vaginal microbiome test. In the same week, the investor participated in the $150m Series B round of Remote, a Silicon Valley-based platform for remote worker management and administration. 

Founded in 2004, Polaris Capital Group is a Japanese private equity fund management firm. Since its inception, Polaris has invested in about 30 Japanese companies. It completed the fourth round of fundraising for its Polaris Private Equity Fund IV in April 2017, during which it raised JPY 75 billion. The new fund will invest in Japanese companies in the manufacturing sector with globally competitive technologies/patents as well as companies with strong brands or unique business models in the consumer goods, retail and logistics sectors.

Bright Success Capital Ltd is a Hong Kong-based family office founded by Hilton Tam who has previously worked at Seagate Technology and Cisco Systems. He specializes in R&D, supply chain processes and consumer electronics manufacturing. Successful investments include Flixibus and N26. The VC manages a portfolio of companies involved in manufacturing and supply chains specifically for hardware components, medical devices, drones and consumer robotics. Its investment focus covers diverse sectors like robotics, fintech, healthcare, enterprise software and deep tech.

Based in Frankfurt, GreenTec Capital Partners is a German social impact investor that focuses on supporting African tech and non-tech startups. The VC plans to increase its investment portfolio to a total of 400 enterprises by 2023. Its current stake in 20 startups is estimated to be €32.5m. In 2020, GreenTec joined the pre-seed round of Nigerian online food cooperative Principally and seed round of Freshbag, a farmers’ marketplace in Cameroon. Recent investments also include AgroCenta’s seed funding in January 2021.

Nour Akbaraly completed a master’s in engineering at Centrale Lille and also a master’s in applied mathematics at Lille University in 2010. In 2011, Akbaraly joined industrial manufacturing consultancy firm Avencore as a consultant in Paris.The avid photographer and F&B enthusiast also went to various tea-tasting classes at a tea specialist college until 2015. Passionate about gastronomy, he began exploring alt-protein alternatives to address the environmental and ethical challenges of food supply chains.In 2016, he went on an engineering training course for agronomy and agri-food at AgroSup Dijon, the National Institute of Agronomic, Food and Environmental Sciences.A year later, he founded Les Noveaux Affineurs, a startup specializing in plant-based alternatives to cheese. His ambition is to create a new range of French gastronomic vegan cheese products for consumers in France and overseas.Since 2010, Akbaraly is also a volunteer at the Action Contre la Faim, a Paris-based international NGO founded in 1979. The “Action Against Hunger” projects include running awareness campaigns on food security issues in colleges and schools in France and other countries like India and Sudan.

Founded in 2017 in Hong Kong, Happiness Capital invests in seed to growth stage companies in the US, Europe, Israel, and China, with a focus on issues affecting global happiness within the areas of citizen trust, food, health, climate change, and reduced inequalities. It hosts its own annual contest, the Super Happiness Challenge , a global open innovation contest to fund individuals and startups with ideas and new products or services that tapped into unmet needs to achieve happiness, with a possible $1m in total investment on offer. The VC currently has 37 startups in its portfolio, around half of which are in foodtech and agtech. Its most recent investments include leading the $4.7m July 2021 seed funding round of NovoNutrients, the US-based biotech producer of alt-protein from fermentation using CO2 and other emissions, and co-leading the $29m February 2021 Series A round of Israeli 3D printed alt-meat startup Redefine Meat.

Guangkong Zhongying Capital was founded in August 2016 by China Everbright, a state-owned enterprise that engages mainly in banking, securities, insurance and investment management, and Focus Media, the operator of the largest out-of-home advertising network in China. It invests mainly in the sectors of consumption upgrade, recreation, corporate services, fintech and artificial intelligence.

Founded in 2004, Zurich-based Alpha Associates is a spin-off from Swiss Life Private Equity Partners. The independent fund manager and advisor specializes in private equity, private debt and infrastructure investments, offering investment services to institutional and private wealth clients.Besides offering a range of private market funds of funds, Alpha also manages Private Equity Holding Ltd with a diversified portfolio of investments in six public-listed companies. Recent direct co-investments include participation in the $54m Series B round of Austrian marketplace Refurbed in August 2021.

Founded in Amsterdam in 2014, Rubio Impact Ventures was formerly known as Social Impact Ventures. The VC currently invests in sustainability-focused startups that are predominantly based in the Netherlands and north-western Europe. It currently has 27 portfolio companies including fair coffee brand Wakuli and cultured meat pioneer Masa Meat. The “Rubicon crossing” VC has just raised €110m for its second impact fund, Rubio Fund 2, in October 2021.Recent investments include participation in the $43m Series B round of food-sharing app OLIO in September 2021 and the €3.6m seed round in July 2021 for Portuguese Arborea that uses micro-organisms in biotech for foodtech applications.

Founded in 2013 by Long Wei, a co-founder of Dianping, Light-Up Capital (also known as Dianliang Fund) focuses on companies in early through growth stage with specialization in robotics, artificial intelligence, mobile internet and mobile healthcare.

Shenzhen Guozhong Venture Capital Management Co., Ltd. (GZVCM) was founded in December 2015. Chief Partner and CEO Shi Anping previously served as vice president at Shenzhen Venture Capital Group. GZVCM is currently entrusted to operate the state-backed Small Medium Enterprises Development Fund, which has RMB 60bn under management.
