Star Wars fan and robotics engineer Gonçalo Cabrita was the CEO and co-founder of agtech CoolFarm for over three years until September 2018, when the company became insolvent. He has a master’s in Automation and Robotics from the University of Coimbra in Portugal. He was a research engineer at his alma mater's Institute of Systems and Robotics for two years until 2011. Since then, he has been working on his PhD, researching plume tracking and odor source detection algorithms for mobile robots.

Armed with a master’s in Business Administration and Computer Science from the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, João Romão is looking to change the way companies and audiences interact with social media and social networks. His experience includes consulting stints around Portugal at AIESEC and Novabase Consulting and as the CEO of Wishareit, a Lisbon-based social shopping platform. In 2013, Romão founded GetSocial, a social analytics and content automation platform that helps marketers and publishers measure, promote and amplify their best work.

Armed with a decade of experience in journalism and media before founding Mobike, the 34-year-old Hu Weiwei also founded GeekCar, a new media automobile and technology company, in 2010. She used to write for the National Business Daily, The Beijing News, Business Value and Geek Park. She is a graduate of Zhejiang University.

With the innovative C2B2F (Customer to Business to Farm) business model he came up with, Fresh Market survived the winter for venture capital funding in China in 2016, and is today the leading fresh food e-commerce platform in East China.Zhang Hongliang (b. 1975) embarked on his journey as a serial entrepreneur after five years in the financial management sector and six years in the automobile industry. The persistent Suzhou native founded Fresh Market (Shihang Shengxian) in 2011 at aged 36, after several tries in three years.

Armed with a bachelor’s in Automation from Central South University, Yang Luyu is a serial entrepreneur since 2005, whether in e-commerce, education, design and scrum. He was the product management director at eBaoTech, where he met Alex Zhu, who became his co-founder at Musical.ly.

As part of Che Meng, one of the first startups in China’s automotive aftermarket, Chen Min (b. 1981) witnessed Che Meng’s boom and bust in three years, learning a valuable lesson about business and the sector.Chen was named to the 2016 Fortune China's 40 under 40 list of the most powerful young people in business.

Gibran Huzaifah ran a composting business and a catfish farm while reading a degree in Biology at Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia. After graduating in 2012, he teamed up with fellow ITB alumnus Chrisna Aditya to establish an aquaculture tech firm PT Multidaya Teknologi Nusantara, aka Cybreed. In 2013, it launched eFishery, an automatic feeder system for aquaculture farms. In 2017, Gibran’s achievements earned him a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list of notable Asian figures.

Chrisna Aditya graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree in 2011 at Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. He founded a mobile app development business and ran it for one year. In 2012, he joined fellow ITB alumnus Gibran Huzaifah to set up aquaculture startup PT Multidaya Teknologi Nusantara. The company later launched the eFishery automatic fish feeder system.

Hanry Ario is a skilled programmer armed with a diverse skillset, from C++ to AutoCAD. In 2014, he graduated from Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia and joined fellow alumni to establish electronics startup Atnic.  Hanry is the CTO of Atnic that created the Jala sensor for shrimp farms.

Dian Prayogi Susanto graduated in 2007 from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. He had previously worked as lead engineer for Schlumberger. After two failed attempts at entrepreneurship, he met high school friend Irsan Rajamin. The two developed an idea to automate farming through the use of sensors, automatic pumps and analytics. In 2016, their idea manifested into Habibi Garden, an IoT startup that aims to automate farming and solve crop nourishment issues.

Irsan Rajamin is a keen gardener and managed to rope in high school friend Dian Prayogi Susanto to develop more efficient crop farming systems using automated technology. The graduate from Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Telkom (Telkom University) in Bandung is responsible for the agritech’s software development as the CTO and co-founder of Habibi Garden.

With over 15 years of experience in the financial services, CFA professional Unai Ansejo Barra is a fixed-income fund manager at a government employees’ pension fund Itzarri EPSV. He is also a lecturer in risk management at the University of Basque Country, with a PhD in Finance and a Physics degree from the same university.He entered the tech scene in 2014 as co-founder and CEO of Bewa7er, an online platform to promote the economic rights of startups. He also co-founded the automated investment manager platform Indexa Capital in 2015.

After receiving his master’s in Automation from Tsinghua University in 2002, Yu joined the Machine Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained his doctorate in Engineering in 2006. Yu was a co-founder of VocallQ, a UK-based voice technology startup. Apple acquired the firm in 2015. Yu returned to China in 2008. In 2012, he set up the SpeechLab, which specializes in intelligent speech recognition technology R&D, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a professor at SJTU.

One of Baidu's first AI hire in the US, James Peng (Peng Jun) had worked at Google for seven years, specializing in back-end and front-end advertising systems. The Tsinghua University graduate with an MS from the University of Buffalo and PhD in engineering from Stanford University was invited by Wang Jing, senior vice president of Baidu, to start Baidu Research US. In 2015, he was promoted to Baidu's Chief Architect in charge of R&D of autonomous driving. At the end of 2016, Peng left Baidu and co-founded Pony.ai with another ex-Baidu employee, the coding whiz, Lou Tiancheng. 

Named by Andrew Ng as one of the world's best hackers, Lou Tiancheng (b. 1986) holds a BS and a PhD in Computer Science from Tsinghua University, where he joined the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science (now Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences) at Tsinghua University) headed by Turing Award winner Professor Andrew Chi-Chih Yao. Lou began his career at Google X (before it became Waymo), where he worked on autonomous driving technology, leaving Google in 2016. More commonly known by his handle ACRush within the programming community, Lou was named best Chinese coder the TopCoder Open, the Olympics for hackers, 10 years in a row. He is also a two-time winner of Google Code Jam, a global programming competition. Before co-founding Pony.ai, Lou was the youngest T10 engineer at Baidu, where he worked on autonomous driving under Chief Architect and fellow Pony.ai co-founder James Peng.
