A self-taught developer and NLP engineer, Álvaro Abella Bascarán is co-founder and Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Spanish medtech IOMED Medical Solutions, which facilitates data extraction from electronic health records. He has also worked as frontend developer, a backend developer, a data scientist and an NLP engineer. For his master’s in Bioinformatics for Health Science at Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University, Abella completed an internship at QMENTA, formerly Mint Labs. This is a US drug development startup dedicated to brain diseases, where Abella gained knowledge of computational neuroscience. He also holds a first degree from the University of Oviedo in Biotechnology.  

A graduate with a master’s in Management and Business Strategy from the ESSEC Business School Paris, Nathanael Faibis had worked for two years as a project manager in France, Kenya and Morocco for a pharmaceutical market research company Sanisphere. In 2012, he worked for Lazada in Vietnam and Indonesia before becoming the head of production and user experience of Lazada Southeast Asia. However, he left Lazada in March 2013 to rejoin Sanisphere in Jakarta as the country head and global head of data management. Finally in April 2014, he decided to set up an Indonesian health portal Alodokter.

Hans Christ has worked internationally across Latin America, Europe and the USA. He is the co-founder of transport technology startup Bipi, a Spanish on-demand car rental app and Lollo Mobility, Bipi’s parent company and transport app company. He co-founded Colombia Cave Box Crossfit in 2013 and was previously Groupon Iberia’s Head of Goods, where he helped established its product department. Christ started his career as a Credit Manager in Walls Cargo Bank. Christ holds a Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU) and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Dallas.

Founded in 1911, the VC has five US offices as well as premises in India and Israel. It invests starting from seed and Series A level, sticking with portfolio companies through later-stage investments. Bessemer Venture Partners has invested in over 880 startups and managed more than 120 exits to date. Recent investments include Korean fintech Toss's US$64m Series F, US accounting unicorn ScaleFactor's US$60m Series C and fintech Mambu's Series C.

Elevation China Capital (ECC) is an equity investment firm, with offices in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Silicon Valley. Founded in Beijing in June 2010 by managing partner Man Li, the VC focuses on investments in early-stage and high-growth stage tech companies.In August 2019, Shenzen's IGTech became its most recent investment as part of a seed funding worth RMB 10m. Based in North Sumatra, Wiyono Sumono joined the co-founding team of Indonesian rewards and cashback app Paprika. In 2014, Wiyono and Kalvin Yap were majority shareholders in e-commerce startup Alikolo that later became defunct in April 2015. Both of them had also worked in the timber commodity business and were keen to invest in their own startup Paprika.

One of the first in China to go to Harvard on a full scholarship since 1949, Bo Shao, who also holds an MBA from the university, worked at Boston Consulting Group before starting EachNet in China in 1999. EachNet was acquired by eBay in 2003 for US$225 million. Today he is a founding partner of Matrix Partners China.

Viperi Limiardi is the commissioner of Artav, the national distributor for mobile network operator XL Axiata. Artav was an early investor in Kioson and is now a majority shareholder of the recently public-listed fintech in Indonesia. A Computer Science graduate from Universitas Trisakti, Viperi had also worked as a professional banker at Bank Indonesia for more than 15 years.

Luis Manent is a co-founder and CEO of Wide Eyes, a visual search engine for the fashion and retail industry. Manent had previously managed and consulted with both large companies and SMEs across a variety of industry sectors, from healthcare and logistics to retail and fashion. Manent holds an Executive MBA from Spain's IESE business school.

Teguh Budi Wicaksono is one of Agate's original members, having joined in 2009 as a game programmer after finishing his bachelor's at the Bandung Institute of Technology. He continued his education while working, earning his master's degree in Informatics in 2012. In 2013, he transitioned from being a programmer to being Agate's project director. In 2017, he became the company's CTO.
