Guangzhou Emerging Industry Development Fund (Emerging Fund) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guangzhou Industrial Investment Fund Management Co Ltd (SFund).It was found in line with the Guangzhou Municipal Government’s industrial upgrade strategy, with the aim of pooling capital, projects and talents together in Guangzhou. The Emerging Fund currently manages a set of government-guided funds and direct investment funds. It also invests in several state-level guidance funds on behalf of the municipal government. It mainly invests in emerging sectors in manufacturing, information technology, service sectors, seed and related industries.

Established in 2015, Unovis Asset Management is a New York-based investor focussed on the alternative protein sector. It has raised two funds to date, the New Crop Capital Trust and The Alternative Protein Fund. It aims to transform the global food system by investing in solutions that facilitate sustained behavioral change and eliminate the consumption of animal protein products. It partners with entrepreneurs developing innovative plant-based and cultivated replacements to animal products, including meat, seafood, dairy and eggs. It currently has 33 companies in its portfolio and has managed three exits to date including Beyond Meat. ICONIQ Capital is a private investment management company that is known for serving a wide variety of famous clients, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Asian billionaire Li Ka-shing, among other Silicon Valley elites and world-famous billionaires. The company is led by Divesh Makan, Chad Boeding and Michael Anders, who were coworkers at Goldman Sachs and joined Morgan Stanley together before establishing ICONIQ in 2011.The investment company is a mix of family office and venture capital, with specialized verticals in tech startup investing, real estate, and impact investments. Based in San Mateo California, KBW Ventures was founded by HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud. The asset management firm’s CEO is also the chairman of KBW Investments that was founded in 2013 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).KBW Ventures is part of the KBW Group and mainly invests in companies involved in sustainable food, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies and fintech. In 2019, the VC had already invested in 24 companies in sectors like e-gaming, drones, e-commerce and plant-based proteins. Recently, it also increased its stakes in two Californian biotechs BlueNalu and TurtleTree Labs. The aim is to open up the Middle East markets to global tech companies.

Green Monday Ventures is the impact investment arm of Green Monday Group founded by longtime Buddhist David Yeung to produce plant-based meat and operate Hong Kong’s first plant-based concept store.Founded in 2012, the Green Monday movement is a social enterprise aimed at promoting sustainable lifestyle concepts like "green food" to address challenges relating to public health, climate change, food security and animal wellbeing. The Hong Kong-based VC was set up in 2013 to focus on investments in alternative protein companies worldwide.

Based in London, CPT Capital is the venture arm of private equity pioneer Jeremy Coller's private family office. Coller is the founder of Europe’s first private equity for secondaries in 1990. The British philanthropist has also established several business schools and the Jeremy Coller Foundation that aims to eliminate factory farming. In 2017, CPT Capital was founded to disrupt the food industry with investments in the alt-protein sector to create the “future of food and materials” like plant-based, recombinant and cell-cultured proteins.

Founded in 2016, Berlin-based investor BlueYard invests in startups aiming to tackle the planet’s greatest challenges. It typically makes $1m–3m as an initial investment and has no geographical bias. Its most recent investments include in the March 2021 $48m Series A round of Dutch cell-based meat startup Meatable which leverages pluripotent stem cells for the first time in foodtech and in the February 2021 $4m seed round of Next Matter, a German Open Source automation tool for operations teams.

Launched in 2015 in Brussels, EIT Food was established by the not-for-profit European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) and funded by the European Union as an investor and accelerator. Its aim is to support mainly European startups in foodtech areas ranging from traceability to alternative proteins, with sustainability a key deciding factor in the startups it backs from pre-seed to Series-B level. The organization currently has 55 startups in its portfolio, which raised more than €91m in investments in 2020. Its most recent investments include 700,000 Swiss francs (€637,000) in the seed round in January 2021 of Swiss biotech SwissDeCode, a company that applies DNA testing to food traceability. Another investment was the December 2020 €900,000 seed round of Spanish compostable-packaging tech Food Sourcing Specialists.
