Abdoulaye Maiga is CTO and co-founder at Teliman, Mali’s first on-demand mobility startup and one of francophone Africa’s first, where he has worked since its launch in 2018.  Before that, he was CTO and co-founder at French real estate startup Wemblee where he still works part-time from Mali, initially simultaneously working as a salesforce administrator and developer in chemical company SEPPIC.Maiga previously worked at Rakuten in Tokyo for one year as a research and development VR scientist and also completed a stint at Accenture in Paris as an information system consultant. He also completed short stints in engineering at BCS Group in New Zealand and in business development at EATOPS in the Netherlands. The Malian national obtained two master’s degrees in innovation economics from Universite Paris-Saclay (2017) and in computer science from Keio University in Tokyo (2015), after winning scholarships to study overseas. 

Formerly from Google Singapore, Winston Utomo earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2012 and a Master of Science degree from Columbia University in 2014. Hailing from Surabaya, he was the president of USC Association of Indonesian Students during his studies at USC. Before co-founding the media company PT IDN Media in June 2014, Winston was a Senior Account Strategist at Google Singapore until October 2015. He was also a project manager at St. John Capital Management in 2012.Besides being the co-founder and CEO of IDN Media, he is also the Editor-in-Chief of IDN Media that owns IDNtimes.

Since 2016, François Derbaix has become a co-founder and adviser to Indexa Lending, in addition to his role as co-CEO of Indexa Capital. Derbaix is a serial entrepreneur, with interests in the vacation rental and retail sectors like Rentalia and Soysuper.  He was the CEO of Toprural from 2000 to 2012, when it was acquired by North American travel giant HomeAway.Derbaix has also invested in various Spanish and Belgian internet businesses like Percentil. The University of Leuven summa cum laude graduate was the first private investor to join a fund managed by the European Investment Fund in 2014.

PICC Capital Equity Investment Company was founded in 2009 as a subsidiary of Chinese listed insurer PICC.In 2018, it set up a RMB 300m fund targeting health and elderly-care sectors. In 2020, the VC set up another fund to invest in cutting-edge technologies like biotech, integrated circuit, etc.

With about $2 billion under management, this VC fund invests primarily in early- and growth-stage global companies with substantial businesses in China, namely in the semiconductor, Internet, wireless, new media and cleantech sectors. GSR Ventures has backed Didi, Ele.me, among others, and was involved in the $2.8 billion purchase of an 80% stake in Philips's LED components and automotive business. It has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Silicon Valley.

CMB International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Merchants Bank. It has two private equity funds. The first, based in Shenzhen, was founded in 2017, and the second, based in Hong Kong, was founded in 2010. CMB International's Shenzhen division invests in the internet, healthcare, automobile, new energy and consumption sectors.

NUMA is a Paris-based innovation hub with offices in New York, Berlin, Moscow, Barcelona, Mexico City, Casablanca in Morocco and Bengalaru, India. Supported by its 130 staff members, the company runs training and startup acceleration programs globally. To date, 300 startups have participated in NUMA's acceleration program, which was developed in partnership with the City of Paris. To date, NUMA has seen 17 exits from its investments. 

Volkswagen Group China is a division of German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group. Volkswagen Group China produces, sells and services cars, engines and transmission systems, as well as other parts and components. It runs more than 2,000 authorized dealerships and has 360,000 dealers on staff. Volkswagen Group China and its joint-venture companies plan to invest €15 billion by 2020 in developing autonomous and new energy vehicles.

Bristol Myers Squibb or BMS is one of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies developing medicines in oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease. It invests directly and via VC funds, including Life Sciences Partners (LSP) and BioGeneration Ventures, as LP. BMS is headquartered in New York and has 10 offices and facilities within the US and 13 in overseas locations, namely, Puerto Rico, Canada, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Japan and China. 

Waldo Hartanto graduated with a BSc in Accounting and Finance in 2012 at Boston College, Wallace E Carroll Graduate School of Management. After graduation, he worked as an equity research analyst at Mandiri Sekuritas for seven months and later joined Rothschild's global financial advisory team in Jakarta.In January 2014, he moved to Singapore to work for one year at Heritas Capital Management as healthcare investment analyst. In 2015, he became the managing director of Wahyu Abadi, an Indonesian business process outsourcing company. His younger brother Walton is also at Wahyu based in Jakarta. In April 2018, both brothers co-founded Elio to focus online healthcare for men.

Early-stage-focused VC firm with a €24m first fund mainly investing in B2B and B2C digital startups headquartered in Spain. Initial investment amounts range between €70,000 and €300,000, and followup investment amounts go up to €1m per company. Describing themselves as “momentum investors” seeking quick time-to-market projects, Encomenda Smart Capital was founded in 2017 and managed by renowned Spanish angel investors Carlos Blanco, Oriol Juncosa and Miguel Sanz Sanchez, along with a network of angel investors  Encomenda supports the growth of startups' portfolios and helps startups to scale at national and international levels. Encomenda invests 30% in SaaS and in projects with a recurring income model; 20% are fintech, and they also bet on the human resources, edtech and healthcare. Just two out of 25 investments have folded up between 2017 and 2020, with half the fund monies committed. Encomenda is seeking to launch a second fund in 2022 focusing on Spanish and Portuguese startups, of €40m–€50m, and multi-stage, by starting in the early-stage investments, with follow-through investments in subsequent stages.

Captii Ventures focuses on building Southeast Asian based startups by providing access to entrepreneurial expertise and experience to support business growth and development. It is a multi stage investor, with a special interest in mobile tech startups, marketplace platforms that facilitate better matching of supply and demand and in new media that disrupts traditional communication channels. It likes startups that use technology to solve age old problems. 

Coatue is a tech sector hedge fund that invests in public and private equity markets. It is run by Philippe Laffont, who founded the hedge fund after leaving Tiger Management in 1999. Coatue is based in New York City and has several other offices around the globe. Its Beijing office was set up in 2014 and has since invested in several notable Chinese startups, including Didi Chuxing, Mafengwo and Kuaikan Comic.

Based in New York, VectoIQ was formed in 2016 to fund startups in the smart mobility space. It is led by Steve Girsky, former vice-chairman of General Motors with more than 30 years in the automobile industry. Mary Chan is the managing partner, who also worked at GM as president of global connected consumer. The VC mainly invests in sectors relating to autonomous vehicles, connected car, smart mobility, MaaS, electrification and cybersecurity.

Sarah Hordern is a co-founder, CFO and Group Development Leader at UK-based Modulous, the first end-to-end generative design and delivery solution for affordable, sustainable and modulized housing, where she has worked since 2019. She is simultaneously a non-executive director at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and at lenders Newbury Building Society. She was previously executive advisor at the Cambridge Code 2018-19, the first digital tool that measures subconscious drivers of behavior, and spent two years as COO at residential management company Meyrick Estate Management. From 1999 to 2014, she was a joint managing director in the area of property and finance at Newbury Racecourse, one of the UK’s largest horse-racing establishments, where she was responsible for the design and commercial negotiations for a new community of 1,500 homes. Prior to this, Hordern spent five years at PwC in corporate tax management. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Oxford University in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
