Pessanha co-founded Unbabel in 2013 and was its CMO, before leaving the startup in August 2016 to join healthcare marketplace Care Revolutions as COO in Los Angeles. She is also a co-founder of Lisbon-based accelerator and NGO Beta-i and of energy tech startup ActualSun and was also Director at the Founder Institute in Lisbon. Pessanha majored in Business Administration at the New University of Lisbon. She also spent three years working at tech company TIMWETECH, in product marketing and business development.  

Seasoned designer Bruno Silva has multiple years of experience as a 3-D artist, web designer and advertising art director. He had worked at various companies, including at multinational marketeers J. Walter Thompson and adtech startup Dezine, before co-founding Unbabel with a few Dezine colleagues in 2013. Silva is currently Unbabel’s lead designer as well as editor. He studied communication design at IADE School of Design in Madrid. 

While majoring in Computer Science at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE), Hugo Silva co-founded Unbabel, where he is a full stack developer and now works full-time. Before college, Silva had worked as a web developer at various companies, including Dezine, which was co-founded by fellow Unbabel co-founder Vasco Pedro, Streetdog Studio and Bomsite. 

A teenage prodigy who was admitted to the University of Science and Technology of China at aged 14, graduating at aged 18, Xu Xueyin built his career at leading tech names before co-founding Meicai. He held IT development jobs at eBay and Baidu, and in July 2010, joined ex-Googler Lee Kai-fu’s incubator Innovation Works as program founder and CTO.

Irma Hidayana, one of the initiators of Indonesia Cicak anti-corruption movement, is reading a doctorate at the Teachers’ College in Columbia University. She graduated from Gadjah Mada University and has a master’s in Public Health from Montclair State University. Irma started her career as an intern consultant at UNICEF and has been a consultant for the baby food industry and IYCF in UNICEF since 2014. She has worked as an ICT consultant to expand maternal and neonatal survival projects in six Indonesian provinces since 2012. Irma was also a co-founder of the Indonesian Breastfeeding Counsellor Association IKMI.

After 18 years with Indonesia’s largest online news portal Detikcom, Budiono Darsono finally retired in September 2016 as the CEO of PT Detik TV Indonesia, also known as CNN Indonesia. With just IDR 40 million in 1998, Budiono built Detikcom with the help of senior journalists, Yayan Sopyan, Abdul Rahman, Didi Nugrahadi and Calvin Lukmantara. PT Trans Corporation paid US$60 million to acquire Detikcom in 2011. Budiono had also previously worked as a journalist for various newspapers including Surabaya, Majalah Tempo, Biro Tempo and Berita Buana since 1984.

Calvin Lukmantara graduated with a bachelor’s in Mathematics from the University of Indonesia. Besides co-founding Kumparan, Calvin was also a co-founder of Detikcom. He still works as a director at PT Agranet Multicitra Siberkom that owns the online media portal Detikcom. He is known as the key person responsible for M&A projects and external relationships of Detikcom.

Jay Jayawijayaningtiyas graduated from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University in 2011, with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. However, he decided to join Merrill Lynch as an analyst specializing in quantitative risk and finance. Prior to co-founding Ahlijasa, Jay also worked as a senior analyst at the Macquarie Group. A high achiever, Jay had won medals at the National Science Olympiad and at the International Astronomy Olympiad.

Michael Saputra is best known for establishing the successful food ordering website Klik-Eat with co-founder Willy Haryanto. They sold the business in June 2015 and went on to develop a meal kit startup BlackGarlic.An electrical engineering graduate from Purdue University in USA, Michael had worked briefly at Bosch, Whirlpool Corporation and Maxim Integrated Products before his master’s program at the University of Texas in Dallas. He made a career switch as a business analyst at Asia Pulp & Paper before co-founding Klik-Eat in June 2011.

Olivia Wongso is a serial restaurateur and chef. As the daughter of celebrity chef William Wongso, she was exposed to the culinary arts at a young age. Armed with a mass communication degree from Curtin University, she worked in public relations in 2002 at her father’s company William Gourmet Catering. She went on to manage various restaurants and conducted cooking courses prior to joining BlackGarlic in 2015. Olivia is also a member of the International Wine Society.

Angelo Syailendra is a veteran in business analysis and investment. After earning a bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering with summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in USA, he went to Stanford University to read a master’s in Economics and Finance. He worked as an analyst and associate in companies such as Morgan Stanley and Affinity Equity Partners. He also helped to establish foodtech startups Klik-Eat and BlackGarlic. Angelo is currently a director at a data centre company DCI Indonesia.

Indonesia’s most prominent young social entrepreneur Aldi Haryopratomo was in the Harvard Business School class of 2011, where his peers included Go-Jek founder Nadiem Makarim and Grab founders Anthony Tan and Tan Hooi Ling.Aldi began his career as a security consultant for Ernst & Young. After a one-year stint at the Boston Consulting Group, Aldi worked with Sean Dewitt and Budiman Wikarsa from the Grameen Foundation to develop Ruma, a business-in-a-box startup for low-income Indonesians in 2009. Ruma launched the “Arisan Mapan” group-buying app in 2014.Aldi also holds a Computer Engineering degree from Purdue University. He was selected as a Young Global Leader in the 2012 World Economic Forum.

After graduating with an Industrial Engineering degree from Purdue University in the US, Sean DeWitt became a management consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He later worked at the US Department of State and the Fund for New York City.In 2007, he joined the nonprofit Grameen Foundation that was established by Grameen Bank founder Muhammad Yunus. As part of the nonprofit, he helped Aldi Haryopratomo establish the social enterprise Ruma.  DeWitt currently works for the World Resource Institute. He also holds master’s degrees in Development Finance and Environmental Economics from the University of London.

Budiman Wikarsa is an engineering graduate from Purdue University. He worked in management consulting firms including AT Kearney and McKinsey. He joined the Grameen Foundation as a project manager in 2007 and helped Aldi Haryopratomo to co-found and run the social enterprise Ruma from 2009 to 2011.Budiman is currently the head of strategic partnership at Monk’s Hill Ventures. He has an MBA from Northwestern University and had also worked for the transition team that assisted the Indonesian President Joko Widodo in 2014.

Aida Sutanto graduated with double degrees in Economics and Law from Universitas Trisakti and Universitas Tarumanegara, Indonesia. She worked at Standard Chartered Bank in Dubai, UAE, as an associate director of transactional banking from 2007 to 2010. Aida was also a vice-president at Bank Danamon, Rabobank and CIMB Niaga Bank. She is now co-founder and chairwoman of Investree.
