Shanghai Guohe Capital was set up in 2009 by Shanghai International Group, a state-owned financial institution. It is China’s first private fund management company to obtain the qualification of private equity fund manager. The firm currently runs multiple funds with assets worth over RMB 10bn. 

Regent Capital is a venture capital firm founded in 2015 in Shenzhen.

DCP Capital is an international private equity firm that mainly invests in Asia. The DCP team previously led KKR and Morgan Stanley’s private equity businesses in Asia. Ocean Link is a private equity firm that mainly invests in consumer goods, tourism and TMT sectors in China. It currently manages two USD funds and one RMB fund. It has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. The limited partners include Chinese and global corporates, financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds and family offices. China’s largest online travel agency and international private equity firm General Atlantic are strategic partners.In April 2020, Ocean Link proposed to acquire all of the outstanding ordinary shares of the Chinese online classifieds marketplace The NYSE-listed company is in the process of evaluating the proposal. 

Founded at the end of 2019, Youshan Capital has raised RMB 3.3bn for its first fund, landing FOF, listed companies, state-owned companies and government guidance funds as its limited partners. It mainly invests in the sectors including TMT, medtech and advanced manufacturing. 

Founded in 2019, Wens Capital is an independent business unit responsible for investment and M&A under Guangdong Wens Food Group which went public on Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2015. Through two subsidiaries Wens Investment and Wens Equity Investment, it currently manages about RMB 10bn worth of assets and has invested in more than 50 companies. It mainly invests in military projects and companies from sectors of environmental protection, healthcare and TMT. 

With currently over $21bn of AUM, Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) was started in Hong Kong in 1997 by Jean Eric Salata, as the regional Asian PE investment arm of UK-based Baring Private Equity Partners. With $300m in its first fund, it focused on riding China’s economic rise spurred by the country’s market liberalization. In 2000, Salata led a management buyout of BPEA and continues to head the firm today as CEO and Founding Partner. BPEA has invested in more than 100 companies, across healthcare, logistics, IT services, media, education, financial services and retail. It is one of the largest independent PE firms in Asia and has eight offices across the continent.With offices in China, India, Japan, Australia, and Singapore, it currently has around 43 portfolio companies, almost all Asia-based, across multiple business segments in tech and non-tech startups, especially in bricks-and-mortar education establishments. It also makes acquisitions, including most recently of US outsourcing services company Virtusa in February 2021.Other recent investments include in the June 2021 $85m Series C round of Portuguese home physiotherapy tech solution SWORD Health, the world’s fastest-growing musculoskeletal solution, and in the November 2020 $198m Series D round of Chinese computer coding for kids edtech Codemao. 

Founded in 2003, Bezos Expeditions is a family investment office based in Mercer Island in the US. The firm was originally set up to manage the personal investments of Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos.The Bezos fund owns the Washington Post, Blue Origin space projects and the Bezos family foundation. The fund has also backed early tech startups like Twitter, Airbnb and Uber. Today, Bezos Expeditions also supports non-profit projects. In 2013, it helped to recover parts of two engines from the Atlantic Ocean that were later identified as belonging to Apollo 11, the first space mission that successfully landed humans on the moon in 1969. The crew of the ship Seabed Worker spent three weeks at sea pulling up pieces of the Apollo F1 engines.

Kaszek Ventures is an Argentinian VC co-founded in 2011 by Hernan Kazah and Nicolas Szekasy, both hailing from Latin America’s e-commerce success story MercadoLibre. Starting with $95m, the VC made its first investment in Brazilian fintech, Nubank. The VC now has over 159 investments and has managed 21 exits. It mainly focuses on B2C solutions, mobile, healthcare technology, retail and media.The most recent Kaszek investment is in Latin America’s leading crypto platform Bitso, co-leading Bitso’s $62m Series B round with QED Investors. Managing partner Szekasy has also joined Bitso’s board. Existing shareholders Coinbase Ventures and Pantera Capital joined the Bitso round.In 2019, Kaszek raised two new funds securing a total of $600m to invest in later-growth stage companies to tap into Latin America’s rapidly maturing tech ecosystems. The rollout of 4G has also helped to speed up the adoption of new technologies across the region, according to Kazah.

Founded by Zhang Yiming in 2012, ByteDance is currently the world’s most valuable startup, worth over $100bn by May 2020. It owns quite a number of popular apps including the news aggregator Jinri Toutiao and short video platforms such as Douyin and its overseas version TikTok.ByteDance is also an active investor in China’s startup ecosystem. With a focus on education and gaming, it also invests in sectors of media, enterprise tech, education, gaming, finance, real estate, artificial intelligence and hardware. As of mid-2020, it had invested in 89 companies.

Founded in 2016, Shanjin Capital is a PE fund manager approved by the Asset Management Association of China. With a focus on new energy and emerging technologies, the firm mainly invests in clean energy, connected vehicles, medtech and healthcare.

Founded in 2015, M25 is an early-stage VC based in Chicago, investing solely in companies headquartered in the US Midwest across tech sectors, almost exclusively at seed stage. It currently has 77 companies in its portfolio and has managed eight exits to date. Its most recent investments include in gaming monetization app Metafy’s $3m seed round in December 2020 and in the $2.7m seed round of mobile online store creation app CASHDROP in August 2020. Hong Kong-based Unicorn Capital Partners was founded in 2015 by Tommy Yip, former partner of Emerald Hill Capital Partners.Unicorn is a leading FoF platform that focuses on venture capital fund and direct investment opportunities in China and Asia. It mainly invests in technology, media, telecommunications and healthcare. By December 2019, Unicorn had $800m in assets under management. It also raised over $350m for its fourth fund.

Lupa Systems is a private investment company with offices in New York and Mumbai. It was founded in 2019 by Rupert Murdoch’s son James Murdoch with $2bn funding from the overall $71bn sales of the family's 21st Century Fox empire to Disney.Lupa focuses on tech companies in the media industry, as well as impact-driven startups focused on environmental sustainability and emerging markets, particularly in Asia. According to a recent report, Lupa is looking to launch new funds, raising about $150m for each fund from family offices in India. The firm has invested in about 12 companies to date.

C4 Ventures was founded by Pascal Cagni, former VP and GM of Apple EMEIA. With offices in Paris and London, the firm invests in early-stage startups across market segments in Europe. The VC also supports later-stage companies interested in expanding into Europe. It currently has 33 startups in its portfolio with principal interests in sectors like hardware, digital media and the future of commerce and work.Recent investments in 2021 include the $54m Series B round of Austrian refurbished electronics goods marketplace Refurbed in August and the $5m seed round in June of Norbert Health, the French producers of the first ambient scanner that can measure vital signs.
