Since its founding in 1972, American venture capital firm Sequoia Capital has partnered with the founders of companies that now have an aggregate, public market value of over $1.4tn. Sequoia Capital acquired Indian venture capital firm Westbridge Capital Partners in 2006, and later became the foundation for Sequoia Capital India. Sequoia Capital India focuses primarily in India and Southeast Asia. It has invested in many major tech companies in the region, including Indian edtech firm Byju’s, budget accommodation network OYO, and Indonesian ride-hailing unicorn Gojek. In 2019, it launched Surge, an accelerator program for early-stage startups in Southeast Asia and India.

Schneider Electric is a Europe-based company primarily providing energy management and automation solutions for homes, commercial and industrial-scale properties. The company was originally named Schneider & Cie, founded in 1836 as a metal and weaponry, but between 1975 and 1999 began to refocus towards the electrical industry. The company was renamed Schneider Electric in 1999.Schneider’s technologies focus on managing energy use and conserving energy through a combination of hardware and software. Consequently, Schneider’s investments into startups revolve around the energy sector, with companies like solar power management service Xurya, battery manufacturer Verkor, and building management SaaS Clockworks Analytics as part of their portfolio.

Accel, formerly known as Accel Partners, is a US venture capital firm,  with its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, and additional offices in San Francisco. It also operates funds for Europe and Israel, with offices in London, UK, and has funds for India and China. It was founded in 1983 and has backed some of the most successful startups including Facebook, Spotify and Dropbox, among hundreds of others.  It typically invests at the Series A and B levels, but can get involved from seed level, and has seen 253 exits from its portfolio to date, across varied market segments.

DX Ventures is the Berlin-based investment vehicle of on-demand app unicorn Delivery Hero. The VC currently has 12 startups in its portfolio including EU rival Glovo. It also invests in social commerce and on-demand delivery startups in Latin America like Facily and Rappi.Investments in September 2021 include participation in the $43m Series B round of British food-sharing app OLIO and $5m Series A funding round for Toku, a Singapore-based startup and Asia Pacific’s dedicated cloud communications provider. It also invested in Leipzig-based sustainable foodtech, the nu company, that produces vegan chocolates and organic proteins.

Founded by Wen Yunsong (Winston Wen), son of former Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, and Yu Jianming in 2005, New Horizon is a private equity firm focused on advanced manufacturing, alternative energy, consumer products and services, and healthcare.

One of the earliest VC/PE firms in China, Shenzhen GTJA Investment focuses on the healthcare/biotech industry. It manages about RMB 10 billion and has invested in more than 100 companies since its inception in 2001.

Fresh Capital is an equity fund that invests in consumption upgrade. It was founded by Steven Hu, former partner of Cathay Capital, and Xiao xiao who used to work as Vice President at Cathay Capital.

YI Capital was founded in 2014 by Chen Wenjiang and Li Muqing, both formerly of CDH Investments. YI Capital’s investment focuses are housing, finance, automotive, express delivery, e-commerce and lifestyle. It manages around RMB 2.5 billion in capital.

Puxin Fintech Fund was co-launched by Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and Shanghai Trust in late October 2019. Operated by Puxin Capital, a subsidiary of Shanghai Trust, the fund mainly invests in fintech startups. 

58 Industry Fund is the VC arm of China’s leading local services provider 58 Group. Founded in 2018, the fund mainly invests in early- and mid-stage startups working on urban lifestyle and education & training. 

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Summer Capital was founded by senior UBS banker Joseph Chee in 2015. Focused on both public and private investments, it mainly invests in sectors of healthcare, consumer products, education, logistics and fintech. 

The venture capital arm of media conglomerate Hearst Corporation, Hearst Ventures made its first investment in 1995 and now conducts all stage investments, with focuses on media and technology startups mainly in the US, China and Europe.

Established in 2010, Flourish Libra Venture Capital is a Fund of Funds (FOF) management firm and focuses on private equity in Greater China. It has invested some funds under Jiuding Capital, Fortune, NewMargin Ventures, Tiantu Capital, SAIF Partners, etc.

Founded by Wu Yongming, a co-founder of Alibaba, and Wang Qi in 2015. With nearly RMB 2 billion under management, Vision Plus Capital invests in startups mainly in their Series A and Series B financing rounds.

UMG Indonesia is a subsidiary of the Myanmar-based UMG conglomerate that was founded in 1998. The Indonesian company is a hardware and machine distributor, with property interests in Indonesia. In 2017, UMG provided seed funding to fishery tech startup Aruna.
