Having earned his master’s degree in Optical Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, Lin received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. In May 2008, he joined NEC Labs America, where he performed research on machine learning and computer vision. In November 2015, Lin was made director of Baidu’s Institute of Deep Learning. In March 2017, he was promoted to head of Baidu Research. Six months after being promoted, Lin left Baidu to found Aibee.

A serial entrepreneur and graduate of the University of Wales, with a master’s in internet commerce. Wake Me Up is Ren Wenyong’s seventh project.

Shannon Falconer graduated with a master’s in botany at the University of Vancouver in 2006. She also completed a PhD in biochemistry at The McMaster University in 2014. She went on to work as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University until 2016 when she decided to become the CEO and co-founder of biotech startup Because Animals. She also led the biotech’s R&D team to develop plant-based nutritional cookies and treats for dog and cats. Because Animals now aims to produce the world’s first cell-based cultured meat products for pets.

Leading media commentator and former Sina Weibo key man Shen Chen is a sociology graduate from Soochow University, and holds an MBA from the Capital University of Economics and Business. Previously at China Mobile and China Telecom, Shen, however, is better known for being part of the team at Sina Weibo who took the company public. With proceeds from his stock options, Shen founded Panda iMedia. Today, some 200 of his colleagues at Panda iMedia were also from Sina.

Amy Du is Co-founder of DefinedCrowd and was CEO from its founding in October 2015 until September 2016. She is originally from Beijing, China and is now based in Seattle, where she is Founder and CEO of VestLink Group, connecting innovators and startups internationally. She has also worked at DGT Information Systems, Chinasoft International and iSoftStone North America, driving growth in the three entities. She holds degrees from the University of Sheffield, UK, and from Beijing Jiaotong University. 

Prior to co-founding interactive video platform TADO, Steven Koesno worked as a senior investment officer at the Indonesia-focused Kejora Ventures. He had begun his career in 2014 at consultancy firm Accenture as a business analyst, leaving in August the following year to join Kejora. Steven graduated from an international double degree program at Universitas Indonesia, earning a Bachelor of Economics degree from the Indonesian university and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Born in 1992, Huang is pursuing her doctoral degree in Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. While studying for her master's at UESTC in 2016, she founded a robotics startup. Huang and her team developed a badminton robot that played against Premier Li Keqiang and also won the Best Innovative Robotic Technology Award at the 2016 World Robotics Conference. In 2017, she was nominated for University Student of the Year by China Campus magazine.

Founder and CEO of Pinduoduo. Serial entrepreneur. The son of a factory worker, Huang received his BSc from Zhejiang University and his MSc from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, both in Computer Science. Upon the advice of a billionaire entrepreneur, he decided to join Google instead of Microsoft and, as a result, became financially independent within three years. Huang left Google in 2007. Before founding Pinduoduo, he started two other companies, both of which were profitable but failed to gain prestige. Looking to achieve renown, Huang started Pinduoduo in 2015.

Leo Zhu received his PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he specialized in statistical modeling of computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI), He was a student of Professor Alan Yuille whose PhD in theoretical physics was supervised by Dr Stephen Hawking. Prior to co-founding and becoming the CEO of China’s leading AI technology startup YITU Healthcare, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s AI laboratory and a research fellow at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.

Azalea Ayuningtyas has a bachelor’s in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, as well as a master’s in Epidemiology from the Harvard University School of Public Health. She worked for one year as a consultant at Simon-Kucher & Partners in USA before returning to Indonesia to pursue her dream of using her skills to help people. In 2014, she co-founded Du’Anyam together with two high school friends. Azalea is the CEO of the social enterprise that seeks to empower women from Indonesia’s subsistence farming households.

Before joining Blackfish as co-founder and president in 2017, Yang was the CFO of online travel site Tuniu, which he helped get listed on NASDAQ in 2014. Prior to that, from 2010–2012, he was CFO of e-commerce platform Dangdang and from 2007–2010 he was CFO of Air Media Group Inc. Yang led both companies' IPOs in the US. He received his bachelor's in Food Science from Fu Jen Catholic University and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles. 

Xiang Xiaoqin sought plastic surgery in 2005 to regain her prenatal figure, but discovered it was difficult to find a reliable clinic in the highly opaque sector. This led her to found cosmetic surgery marketplace Yuemei. She is an economics graduate from Beijing Normal University and holds an MBA from the National University of Singapore.

Antonio Vázquez García holds a first degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Master's in Finance, both from Spain's Vigo University. Since 2017, he has been a co-founder and CFO of Alén Space. Vázquez was previously an aerospace researcher for the Aerospace Group at Vigo University, before which he was a theater technician and waiter.

Kevin Lee is an ex-Googler and co-founder of Ajaib, an online investment advisory startup. In 2016, he graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s in computer science. Upon graduation, he joined Google as a software engineer with the Google Assistant development team. Two years later, he joined university schoolmate Anderson Sumarli to establish Ajaib.

Cornell and Stanford-educated Fulbright scholar João Barros is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Porto and teaches in the MBA program at the Porto Business School. He has also held visiting appointments at MIT and Carnegie Mellon. He has co-founded two startups, Streambolico and Veniam, of which he is also CEO. Between 2009 and 2012, Barros served as National Director of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program, a five-year international partnership funded by the Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from Munich's Technical University.
